Guess I don't make a good mud spatter analyst like Dexter. Missed that part of the truck in my forensic investigation. Haha. Even after people told me to look there. I guess the missing paint should be a dead give away.

As for the tire, I want new tires and rims anyways with a small lift so the stock Dunlop at20's are on their last legs anyways.

Was anyone able to make the rubbing go away or ultimately figure out why it is happening? My wife has an 05 4Runner & I just noticed the rubbing this morning while changing the oil. Its gone deep enough in some parts that I'm taking the tire off. Here's a pic of where the rubbing is occurring. This is only happening on the left front. However, it's not rubbing while parked, even when turned hard right or left. Anyway, the tires are Toyo Open Country, stock size 265/65 17's. The wheels are stock as well, what it came with. There is NO signs of uneven wear on the tread which makes it more puzzling.4runnrubedit.jpg

I was the original poster here...my tires were rubbing off the frame on a full turn. Try marking the rubbing spot with chaulk and see what happens when you drive and do full turns.

I doubt thats where it's rubbing. Turn to full lock left and see if it's rubbing the back of the LCA, bet the paint is worn off and bare metal there

IS IT possible that the Wheel rim is defective/flexing??? Especially on Corners?? Also I'd check the wheel spindle axle for flexing/cracks??

A storm rolled in yesterday, so today I'm going to experiment with chalk on the inner sidewall. Here's some pics from when I took the tire off. That tab part that sticks out was nice and shiny, unlike anything else behind the tire. By the tire pressure has never been an issue, I'm pretty anal about it & I can't remember the last time it went through an automatic car wash.

Looks like you found the problem. If I were you I'd get 1/4" spacer plates and replace your lug nuts with nuts with a longer shank to give you that clearance you need.

Paint those spindle nipples with a paint marker and check it after a few miles.

    OK , My 2 cents .... JMO

    - The "High point" Looks to be deliberately designed on the part. Why I don't know - perhaps as a measure point or "clamping point" during the assembly / alignment at the factory. It might be the sprue (metal casting fill point) for the casting - but I think not.

    - A previous posted stated that a Dealer did look this over and did not see any loose/worn/damaged parts. (did not see an obvious cause).

    - The entire front end is designed to move and absorb shocks from the road. The Rubber bushings in the front end attachment points and the ball joints, pivot points, wheel flex, etc. have some movement - especially as they get worn /older.

I "Think" that during a very tight fast turn the g force of the front weight of the car/engine during the turn pushes a LOT of side force of the turn to the front end and parts. Add up the ability of all the parts to move slightly and it might just allow the "high point" and the tire to touch.

Perhaps some one can chalk up their tires and NOT take and tight cornering - unless dead slow, as i parking and advise results?

    Again JMO.

Not sure why @w650dr posted on a 6 year old thread, but it's an 05. The ball joints are probably shit, take it somewhere and have the suspension checked. Not sure where the person above sees that a dealer looked at either the 6 year old OP or the newly resurrected poster?
