Anyone know of any other threads on this topic?

Wanted to start a discussion if anyone knew how close the 1st gens and 2 gens had compatiblie parts. The first gen Taco's cab looks that same as same era Hilux and same for Gen2. I wonder if there is more similarities/ parts commonality under the skin.

I had a '98 Taco 4x4 when we lived in the US. Now have a '03 4x4 Hilux. Completely different underneath. Front suspension is almost exactly like the torsion bar setup in my '87 Toy pickup. Frame is a lot beefier than the Taco's. I read on another site that all Hilux 4x4s are rated as 1 ton. Hilux dash is pretty much the same as my '98, with some small changes. Hilux trucks sold in Asia, UK, and Australia have the 2.7L 3RZ-FE motor, but ones sold in Colombia had 2.4L 2RZ-FE. No US-mandated safety equipment. My hilux does not have an airbag, ABS, or even additional bracing in the doors. Engine smog management is minimal. The only sensors I can find are O2 to control the fuel injection. No EGR valve or anything else. As far as the cabs being the same, I can't say because my Taco was an extra cab, and my Hilux is a doble cabina. Having owned both, I'd take the Hilux anyday.
