    Check your foam. If it hasnt failed it most likely wont. Think this whole issue is completely overblown to be honest. A few members have an issue and Tacomaworld melts down.

    I think you're right. I'm with a small dealer in a small rural community. They said they have only performed service on 2 Tacomas that had this issue, it is mostly a Tundra issue that they see with this. The secondary air pump service replacement has only happened to 6 cylinder Tacomas and they sell 9 6 cylinders for every one 4 cylinder.

    Not an issue until yours blows. I like the cheap uni-filter fix.

    Did you do this prior to failure? Is the pump as easy to access on the V6?

    I actually haven't had a failure yet. I'm hoping the uni-filter may prevent one. The pump is very easy to access.

    The pump is right next to windsheild wiper fluid reservoir on the back of it.

    I have a '12 V6. I did this because it's a $15 peace of mind.

    Is there a specific micron rating for the foam and if so what is the difference between the foam and the aftermarket filter?

    Don't over think it. The air being pumped never goes into the engine. It's a workaround for emissions tests. The air is pumped directly into the exhaust to dilute the dirty exhaust during start up.

    Exactly.... Used to use a air pump to get my honda to pass smog bad in the day, it look like it wasn't even on with result I got :laugh: :anonymous:

    how does it come off? i unscrewed that center torx screw but i didnt want to pull too hard. im at 90k, is it just stuck on there?

    edit: just looking to inspect the foam at this point.

    IIRC, yes. I put the uni filter on last fall and forgot all about it. After seeing what the foam does to the pump if/ when it breaks down, I think this is a no-brainer mod. It took me almost 5 minutes - including getting out the tools and putting them away.

    It pumps clean air through the exhaust on startup. That way you have fewer ppm of pollutants and can pass emissions tests. It's all smoke and mirrors.

    its pointless. its for emissions. i got it off. Ill probably still do it but this looks good, eh? did you just break off that plastic cap and screw that new filter on?

    The plastic cap has little clips on it. It comes off easily - just pry one up with a screwdriver. The hose clamp on the filter secures it on.
