So far, I'm enjoying my Silver Sky SR5, but I'm really not loving the chrome bumper. The chrome emblems are a nice touch, but the bumper ends as well is just too much shine. Plus, I know it's just a matter of time until that chrome is covered with water spots.

Therefore, I'm looking at getting new bumper ends. OEMpartsource.com has them for about $76 each in black (matte/unpainted). So where to get them seems like a no-brainer. However, I can't decide if I want to leave 'em black or get them painted to match. I have a friend in the body shop at a dealer, so he could paint them for a reasonable fee.

So, if you have a Silver Sky Tacoma with either body color (SR or TRD Sport) or matte black (base SR, I think?) and could post a pic or two from the side and/or back, that would be great.

Nice, thanks! I'm also thinking of the letter inserts, too, so bonus!

I hated the chrome too. I plastidipped mine for now. I plan on ordering the unpainted bumper ends and leaving them unpainted. I have black letter inserts, and it flows well with the end caps being painted black for now.

I'm liking the color match instead of black on this color. Both look great I just like the color match a little more. Not color you are after but thought I'd show u anyway. I had a friend wrap my chrome in flat black vinyl, turned out amazing. I didn't feel like dealing with Plastidip fading, peeling and chipping.

I'm liking it too. Possibly down the road I'll color match too.

How hard was that process? I'm wanting to wrap my roof black. I load/unload my canoe quite a bit and I scratched my '08 a few times doing that. I was thinking that might give me a little protection on top of a little bit different of a look. Looks awesome by the way.

Thanks! Actually I was surprised by how easy he made it look. He had the right tools which is key. You need a heat gun obviously, a squeegee and he had this tape with string-wire of some sort that he stuck around the edges to make a perfect cut (link below). He charged me $100 and yes I agree the vinyl will add some protection for you.

Thanks. I was going to have it done professionally but I'm thinking this is something I could easily do myself. I already have a heat gun and a bunch of squeegees.

I have confidence in you man, you got this. The vinyl is pretty user friendly and forgiving too I saw him peel an area off a few times then hit it with the heat again and it was fine. I'm really happy with it. I've tried plastidip and I'm not too fond of the texture, fading, chipping and peeling as I said earlier. Black plastidip will discolor over time.

Thanks for all the replies and photos. Definitely leaning towards color matching, but will probably wait until Summer. Dropping the hitch and entire bumper to make the swap seems like a real time suck, but I should have a free Saturday come June or July.
