    ...are you guys running, if any. I want something small but with NOAA channels. I'm running a cobra 29 right now, buut its really big and hard to mount, So looking for something smaller.

    MXT115, and MXT400.

    I put a MXT105 in both my vehicles and can just hand someone a GMRS walkie-talkie and instantly we are good to go.

    Fortunately most of the guys I wheel with have these MXT radios too, and we get good range, especially for us that installed upgraded 6DB gain MXTA11 antennas.

    P.S. It has the NOAA weather channels too.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I do want the NOAA channels. Thats a must. @ Jichoe, does the cobra 75 have them?

    I haven't used them personally but their website says that it does, I mostly only plug in the handset when I'm out on trails to communicate with other rigs. Hope this helps.

    I've done a mod or two
    I have one of these and while the form factor is nice it is a real underperformer even with a properly tuned antenna.

    The anti-tacoma, aka 4runner
    Ran a Cobra 29 in my JK and it did well, but as noted, it's large. The 75 is much nicer, I just hooked it up in my 4R, with the pigtail sitting under the passenger seat. I've only messed around with it a bit and tuned it, so far so good. Time will tell, I've read great reviews and negative reviews on both the Cobra and Midlands, so you're guess is as good as mine.

    I just installed my cobra 75 this week. I only want it to communicate on the trails, but I can chime in after this weekend and see how it does. Most of my buddies run it though, so I expect it will work pretty well for me. Love the clean setup it provides.

    That's more an antenna function than radio function. Better (& longer) antenna = greater range

    Even though I'm a Ham / GMRS guy I picked this HT up for talking to CB guys at events. I like it's got a mobile mode with a SO-238 out for antenna hookups. I'll just run a mag mount whip and pop this guy out when people aren't on the other comms. I think it will work well.

    Anyone know where to buy the top rubber cap for a cb antenna? Lost mine driving through a parking garage. When I was able to stop and remove my antenna the piece was long gone.

    33s and stryker440 10 meter conversion to 11 radio
    I have a Stryker 440hp 10 meters ham that was converted to 11 meter. I love this radio. I also got an other one done for my wife's 4 runner. These are 60 watts out of the box just don't use it all unless you need to.
    We are going to 2&6 meter radios as well to have our bases covered I will get an other set of Kenwood tm281 2 meter radios agian soon

    good bones but stock. looking to build a great family vehicle/overland camping
    The Cobra 25 is most of the same circuitry of the 29 in a smaller case. They are good radios and properly tuned will talk farther than some of the other radios mentioned but do not have weather band on any that I've owned.

    I'm sure the fiberglass trucker antenna's are very popular for off-roading. as far as pure transmission is concerned I don't care for them. my preference is a Predator 10-K which is an aluminum air cooled coil design. second choice would be a Wilson enclosed coil like the trucker2000 or the 1000 however they are no longer either in production or being produced at the same quality. So I was told when i last stopped by a c.b. shop. I used to be big into the hobby but haven't been active in a while.
