    Hi all,

I've been googling on some ways to get surface rust off my sliders before i be paint/coat them.

I could go with what my google searches show but i wanted some Tacoma world insight too.

Has anyone here had to remove surface rust from their armor before? If so, what method did you use and how successful was it?

Also on the note of rust. There is a couple of tiny spots where it is more than just surface rust, any thoughts on how best to neutralize that before painting/coating?

I apologize if I should have posted this in a different section.

    Thanks!!!
    Brian

Wire brush works well. Red Scotch Brite pads work well. Could hit it with sandpaper. 220-320 grit sandpaper if the brush or Scotch Brite didn't remove all of the corrosion. Clean thoroughly with Alcohol/Acteone and prime/paint away!

Scotch bright alcohol then self etching primer and paint. I don't recommend power coating or bed lining sliders if your going to use them. Make them easy to touch up.

Done that kind of thing hundreds of times over the decades. Phosphoric acid. More commonly known as naval jelly and it's available at any hardware store. Brush it on, let it sit, rise it off. Super simple and 100% effective.

It's just a brand of cleaner, not the encapsulator/paint.

As @steelhd says, Navel Jelly, phosphoric acid, etc. Something that works to clean, degrease and etch the surface before paint.

I highly recommend that you prime as soon as you have bare metal exposed.

Thank God.. I spent the last month on a ship chasing rust that was left untreated for probably 15 years - terrible scabs everywhere.
