I just ordered a pair of Hella 6.5" lights and I need some ideas for mounting them behind the grille. I would love to see some pics of what you guys have done. I have pretty good fab skills but no access to a welder so it would have to be bolt on.

    For the haters:
Why didn't you buy a light bar? Because I didn't want one

Why would you want them behind the grille? Because that's where I want them

They will work better out in the open - Yes I know

Instead you should get "xxxx" - You can put "xxxx" on your truck, this one is mine

Did you mount this from above, below, or straight back to the radiator support?

Lights are PIAA 520's I believe (PIAA something). Decent amount of light, but not CRAZY bright either.

Buy yourself a piece of 4 x 4 angle aluminum, chuck it up into your bridgeport and get to millin'

Dunno what a Bridgeport is but I have a hacksaw, angle grinder, and an ultimate set of files.

I mounted the lights to a horizontal angle iron, then supported it down to the radiator support that runs front to back, then added another support upward to the top of the radiator. I painted everything black to hide the atrocity, but it works. I just used a bunch of bar steel and angle steel that I picked up at Home Depot. I would not recommend doing what I did, I intend to fix it at some point. The light doesn't seem to suffer behind the grill as much as I thought it would, I'll keep them there.

That's the direction I was planning to go. I just started this thread for some ideas.

If the weather is nice I'll take some pics tomorrow.
I built mine from 2Ă—2 angle iron from home depot. I had originally made it from 2Ă—2 aluminum so no rust. Unfortunately with big lights (I have 7" LED's) there was way to much flex and lights bouncing as I drove.

Cool, no rush. I probably won't get around to it until Sun or Mon anyway.

Thinking of doing this, but don't want to spend a big chunk of change just for the mounting bracket.

I just used some angle iron from home depot and did two "L" shaped brackets to mount the lights on each side to give it a bit more support. I don't have any pics of the brackets but I just bolted them down to the holes in the frame just to the sides of the latch for the hood. IMAG1060.jpg
