I've landed virtual identical pricing between the LEER XR and Snugtop Rebel w/following features.

    Front removable sliding window
Side x2 windoor w/vent and screens
    headliner
    remote lock

The difference is that the snugtop is $100 more but also 3.5 hours closer so to me that is a wash. Any additional thoughts or considerations?

I went with the Leer and am extremely happy with it.

I have a Snugtop, I've had a Leer,ARE. All are good, but the Snugtop is a little better made, more stainless hwd., more bolts vs rivets. The dealer is key, also access to dealer, if there is a problem the dealer has to fix it . I would go to the closest dealer.

Great input - thank you. I am military and leaving a month or two after install. So after initial install I'm hoping not to need a return visit and if I do will depend on where I'm going. I'm leaning towards the Snugtop for 100 more and doing a shorter trip. That way if there are any last minute problems they can resolve close by.

I've owned both a Leer 180 and a Snugtop Rebel - sold the Leer for the Snugtop.

The Leer seemed to have a better fit to the bed. It mated better to the vehicle and it sealed out water completely - no joke, my bed stayed bone dry, even during torrential downpours. Front corners, around the tailgate - dry, no dripping or anything. The rear door was flimsy and seemed cheap; it was not the solid SUV-like glass, but a glass window with a sheet metal trim. I'm sure the window could have been upgraded at a dealer.

The Rebel has more bells and whistles (keyless entry synced to the vehicle, side vented windoors, solid rear glass etc...). I went all out when it was ordered new. I'm sure a new Leer could be ordered with similar upfits - though I've read that Snugtop is the only vendor who offers a vented windoor for the short bed Tacoma - not 100% sure though. The interior LED light is superior to the dinky unit that was in my Leer - its bigger and brighter. I also ordered this shell with the Sportsman's Package (reinforced roof - 500lb capacity) - it is stout and handles my roof top tent without issue. Again, it does not seal nearly as well as my Leer 180 did. I've been slowly locating leaks and sealing them with silicone and/or weatherstrip when applicable.

    ***EDIT***
As a follow-up, I'll add that when the shop installed the Rebel they removed the silicone that was applied to the front of my bedrails (presumably by the shop that originally installed the Leer 180). The lack of silicone lead to the leaks I was having at the front of my bed. I reapplied some outdoor silicone to the corners last week, and so far no leaks.

Also, I had some leaking at the rear hatch, specifically at the bottom corners where the window meets the tailgate. The small flap-like seal in both corners had separated from the fiberglass and water was working its way in. I reattached the corners of these seals with some 3M flexible adhesive and all is good now.

How much $ does the reinforced shell add? And how much weight?

    $60 per my invoice.

Not sure about the weight question. I can't see it being that much heavier. Maybe 30-40 pounds would be my guess. Snugtop could probably answer this question over the phone - http://www.snugtop.com/contactus.aspx
