Thank you for these. Ran the truck through some stuff this weekend, then heard the howl and got a sinking feeling. Got to a spot with service and read this thread. Taped it up that night and problem solved.

Experiment with various hole sizes / freq to cancel out the harmonic howl from the rear.

Nothing from the rear, yet, but might as well wrap those up, too. How did this not get caught from factory?

I have heard it maybe a couple of times in a year with the correct cross wind. If it still does it at 300k I might look at it, no deal breaker really. Just tell people its the blower kicking in.

My 17 has the wind howl , I'm going to order and install the plugs myself.

Just went out and checked. My 17 OR had the plugs installed when I bought it 2 weeks ago. One less thing to worry about.

Will the dealership give plugs for free?

EDIT: Manager wanted me to come in for them to check it out and wasn't aware of the TSB. I ordered off of Amazon.

Mine would not!. Not only that, they would only order the parts after they VERIFIED the condition. My stealership doesn't even stock these eventhough this applies to every 16-17 Tacoma. Not only that, they want like $68 for them. I bought mine at Lowe's for about $1 a piece. Well worth the time and $6 to stay away from the dealer.

Hey guys, how do I determine I have a LCA whistle and not the differential howl, my truck is a 4x4 6 Speed Manual Access Cab.

I can hear a faint noise from 30 mph and up.

And it doesn't stop? FYI, I've only had the LCA howl and that was from 35-45, then I capped some of the holes and it then went to 60-65. I taped them all and it stopped. I recommend putting some black duct tape over the holes, then drive at the same speeds.

I taped the recommended holes as in the TSB but could indeed still hear a faint whistle at highway speeds. I'll try taping all the holes as you suggest.

When you get to the speed you get the howl, slightly vary the gas pedal from slight coast to 0 acceleration to slight acceleration. If the howl comes and goes I'd suspect the diff.

Nice job on the find fix guys! One comment - when covering the holes be sure it will not trap water.

I'll check mine, but isn't the wheel side lower than the rest of it? Should I poke a hole in the tape? I think I'll just get some LCA armor to move the air away from the holes :)

My truck came with the Lower A Arms plugged from the Factory, only 3 should be plugged so moisture can drain out of the other holes. I can mainly hear my rear diff noise when going downhill and kinda featherthe throttle.

Can you take a pic of the factory solution? Just curious to see what it looks like compared to my "Lowes" solution :D

Come on mother trucker. Get your lazy ass up off the couch, put on your rubber slicker and your bright yellow galoshes looking like the Gorton's Fishsticks Guy then go out there, crawl under that truck and snap a photo. I always deliver when you ask for it!!!!
