Lol, okay, truth be told I was very confused when entering this thread. i thought the tech package was literally just the presence of the HD touch screen head unit with navigation and weather. That's obviously not the case

That said, I actually don't think the truck I was in last night had the tech package becuase there was no moonroof. I'll have to get in one before I make a decision

I wanted the tech package but couldn't, with the addition of the moonroof, my head kept hitting the ceiling. And since you can't raise or lower the seat, I was SOL

First off the dealer is lying to you about not being able to build the truck. The dealer doesn't want to build the truck because they want to move something off their lot.

When it comes to negotiating with this dealer do what GPB said:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...your-2017-tacoma.444691/page-17#post-13205880

I did just that and got the price I was looking for in Louisiana.

Here is how you will do it to mirror this method.

    1) Googled "toyota dealerships in Kentucky", it will give you this page http://www.toyota.com/dealers/Kentucky That page will give you all the dealer websites. Avoid the dealership you have been dealing with in person.

    2) Go to one of the dealer websites and look for Company Info-> Meet our Staff. (Some sites may have different wording here.)

    3) Look for the Sales Manager and Internet Sales Manager. If they don't have an Internet Sales Manager then use an Internet Sales Specialist. Get their email addresses and phone numbers from the site.

    4) Put that info into a spreadsheet (location, dealer name, contact information, price)
Keep doing this until you have about 15 dealerships.

    5) Make another email address thru Google or whatever. Don't make it something crazy like SkaterBoi420 or something.

    6) Put all their names in the To column and put this as your message:

Hello I am interested in purchasing a 2017 Toyota Tacoma.

The model configuration is as follows:
TRD Sport Double Cab (Engine size)
    Manual Transmission
    Paint Preference
Premium and Technology package (No JBL)

I live in Kentucky so my tax rate will be around ##%.

I want to know what my out the door price will be for this truck. I do not have a trade. I plan on making an order for this truck by the end of the weekend with the best deal.

    7) Then you wait for the offers. Print out the offer that you like including the original message you sent out to the dealers. Black out the name of who you dealt with in both the reply and original method. Leave the dealership name so they know it's a real place and not something you made up. (I did that part mainly because I don't trust people)

    8) Go back to the original dealership and see what they will offer you price wise for the truck. Use the email as your counter offer and try to get them below that. If they match but don't beat it then walk. He'll call you back tomorrow with a better offer.

    9) Get ready to wait like I am.

Salesman hate this tactic but it works for the consumer. Another tip is to wait until the last day of the month. All dealerships compete against each other in the region for sales. Whoever has the higher sales gets first dibs at allocations in future months. So naturally the last day of the month they press hard for sales.

They want to confuse you, facts are their enemies. They want you to buy something now and go away.

I showed up at 7pm last night looking to just talk to someone. Didn't get out until 9pm becuase the manager kept trying to talking me into leasing. He wouldn't shut up about it after I repeatedly told him I'm only interested in purchasing.

I don't think I'll be going back there.

Yes, I get it. You are thinking inside the box. :p:D Try to think outside for a second.

Being 100% electronic these days, a vehicle can be programmed to do just about anything.

Like have the PBS only crank the engine for as long as you press it down.

They could even have it crank the starter normally (for 5 seconds) when the clutch start cancel is disengaged, but once engaged, have it be user controlled. Just tap it for a quick bump of the starter to crawl over a rock.

I get that some people like turning a key. But I don't see the automatic guys complaining much (at least not for this reason, LOL).

I daily drove a stick shift car for four years that had PBS and proximity key before buying my Taco.. I miss those features every single day. :(

Not saying its not possible but this would require a reprogramming of the computer, possibly an additional computer. I'm more concerned by why the hell they didn't put in seats that go up and down. LOL. Besides, I'm not sure how remote start would work if the motor only cranked when the PBS was depressed

I am in Ohio and did a quick 500 Mile Scan for Manual Tacoma's, looks like that Dealer is lying to you as I see several Sport Manuals with P&T.

I just wanted to follow up to this thread and let everyone know what ended up happening. After doing a lot of reading and searching on this forum, I decided to go with the 2017 TRD off-road MT in magnetic gray. Sunday night, I built the truck I wanted and sent that build along with my contact info to 7-8 nearby dealerships using Toyotas website.

The next day all the prices started at 37.5k. I just kind of sat on that for a few hours and answered questions as they came in. Around 1pm I started getting offers. I told all of them to email me their offers along with the spec sheet for the truck. I ended up getting an offer for 36k out of a dealership an hour away.

I started driving to a dealership closer to my city who said they would match the 36k. Well, as I was driving I got another offer but this was for 35.3k. I told the dealer I was driving to that if he couldn't beat that price that I was going to turn around and head that way. He said there was no way he could even match that offer and that I should take it. I didn't get any other offers on the drive to that dealer that offered 35.3 so I signed :)

The way I see it I saved $2,200. Now I wait. Thank you for the advice ThickCutCod.

All the prices I listed above are after TTL!

Congratulations. I just want to give credit to GPB as well because the idea came from him but I'm glad to help.

Thanks, but I just refined and typed up something I'd picked up along the way. I'm glad it's helping folks out.

Congrats @jewboi on scoring a deal.
