Those of you that have installed a front locker in their 2nd Gen, what size is the Allen bolt on the rear mount?

I don't remember either but it's not bigger than 10mm since that's the largest I have and didn't have to borrow or buy one

Got the crawl box installed today. The triple stick is giving me a hard time. I'm playing hell finding neutral in the shift pattern. Hopefully its better when I get oil in it and the truck running. Gonna have to cut and move the shift levers a bit and possibly get a short throw trans shifterIMG_20170304_185110502.jpg IMG_20170304_185120747.jpg IMG_20170304_185151073.jpg

I've had my box in a couple times now. Just did the "final" install and can't for the life of me remember if we put anti seize on the shafts. I know we didn't do it this time, but I THINK we did it before. Hope so.

I drain the fluid evrey 6months, well maybe ill bump it to evrey year now thats its no longer my dd, to look for rust in the fluid. Once the fluid starts having a tint of red, pull the cases and inspect. If its red that means the couplers fretting which leads to it stripping out.

What's the difference between the marlin and inchworm with the 4.7's?

    For the TacoBox,

Inchworm by default uses Trail-Gear 4.7s, and has unlimited clocking capabilities. Uses a non-fill slot style double row bearing.
Does not come with shifter, but comes with the base.
    Color: blue

    Availbility: usually in stock

Marlin Crawler uses a fill slot bearing double row bearing, in the current setup does not have clocking capabilities. Uses total spline, available in chromoly version (which seems to be the standard version now)
*There has also been talk of other magic in house "mods" that are done.
Not sure about the shifter and base.
    Color: red

Availability: currently in stock, but may be out for the next 6 months at any point.

Got some free time to work more on the adapter and bearing this weekend.

While Inchworm does use a better than the "fill slot" type that a few have experienced failure, there is an upgrade for that.

The Nachi bearing supplied by LowRange has a max rpm of 5400rpm. While really unlikely to get to that and over spin the bearing.....the MRC has a max of 6800rpm.

Below is a comparison of the two.

Left is MRC, right is Nachi.

Adapter with the old bearing pressed out.

    20170311_143503.jpg

Pressing the new bearing in with the HF press was a breeze, just line up, and good to go.

Clearenced the tcase housing for the 4.7s.

Next is onto cutting out the gaskets to seal up everything.

I could never get mine to seal with gaskets, i used permatex "the right stuff". That stuff kickass until you need to get something apart.

I know i know "paper gaskets bring the gears into tolerence", my gears have been at it for 9yrs now with no paper gaskets.

Paper gaskets looked a bit weak, I got them to draw templates and convert over to cork gaskets to see if that does better.

I do have the Right Stuff and the Avaiation style on standby, both good stuff !

A bit more tech for tonight.

After assembling the new Marlin 4.7 gears and bringing them home, I realized there was a left over washer...

    Said washer.
    20170314_220638.jpg

After spending some time going back and double checking...turns out this washer is not even used with the Marlin gears.

When taking apart the original 2.28 Trail-Gear gears from the crawlbox, this safety sprocket is placed onto the backside of the gears.
    20170314_220355.jpg
    20170314_220429.jpg

Without the spacer, when the bearing is pressed onto the gear, there is a residual gap that would allow this safety sprocket to wobble.20170314_220340.jpg

    Correctly assembled with the spacer.
