I've been following and, dare I say, attempting to emulate this build ever since we bought our '02 double cab 3 years ago. I had this hope that some day, being that I live in Utah would see this icon of the 1st gen Tacomas roaming the streets. That day finally came. There are several office buildings near the one I work in and one fine day as I walked out to meet up with someone there it was. Across the other parking lot. Just sitting there. I quickly concluded with my friend and walked over there. Awkwardly enough someone was in it so naturally I motioned for him (not Adam) to roll down the window. "I've been following this build for years!" Luckily this comment broke the ice very quickly and we walked and chatted for a few minutes before I headed back to work, all smiles. There have been a few other occasions where Box Rocket has been in that parking lot and I took the opportunity to park next to it one of those days. Hopefully I'll see it again!

My next "maintenance" round will be the OME kit and hopefully some sliders.

Amazing build and like so many others have said but still very relevant, Thank You for doing so well in documenting and answering everyone's questions.

Question on the feet and gussets. Did the kit come with them or did you order them seperate?

This might be the most informative series of photos i have seen on this topic. The paint scratches from one single trip on an immaculate well armored truck. This helped me redesign how i will make and locate armor and where i will locate racks and hitches. Great photos here and throughout your thread.

(I am planning to post more responses as i re-re-re-read this thread. great job on this truck)

Hey, I know you sold the truck but Im about to start building my rear bumper and I was wondering if you ever had any problems having the 3x5 so close to the bed? Looks like its less than 1/4" in your pics, wondering if it might hit if the body flexes enough

The bed is solid mounted to the frame. No bushings so flex is minimal.

alright sounds good, so I guess 1/8-1/4" on either side should be fine

Never had a problem with it.
I purposely built it to be tight. The bumper worked fine but my sliders were tight enough that they would contact the pinch weld on a hard hit. I put a 1" body lift on the truck and never had any issues after that.

Best way is to open the tail gate and check clearances there. 1/4'' below that will be great or 3/16''
