I was there Saturday morning for the first time. Took my kid a did an overnight trip. Such a cool place. Was a lot of fun. Drove Fins and Things and the main loop of Hells Revenge. My locker wouldn't engage but still did ok.

Nice! We did TOTW on Sunday. I was in the Maze District the rest of the time....or Colorado getting fixed ha

Young Brett AND Wyo Brett. Wyo Brett towed my sad taco 4ish hours to Steamboat...and that was after he drove 5 hours down from Lander.

It is great to have amazing friends to help out.

So I didn't like any of the ways to mount the scan gauge. I set about doing my own using kydex. I don't want to drill holes in anything and I like to keep everything factory as much as possible. I bought my Taco new in 01 and the inside still looks new.

The top piece of Velcro only provides a cushion in case it vibrated.
Used the Velcro that came with the scan gauge and some double sided sticky foam. Stick the kydex to the bottom of the ashtray.

Ran cable through hole in the back.

    Ashtray still works.

First time in the Maze district? So much to explore there. I need to get back.
Someone above mentioned Hell's Revenge and that reminded me of the main obstacle in there, Hell's Gate. My first off road trip to Moab was in a stock FZJ-80 series Land Cruiser. We did Hell's Revenge and got to Hell's Gate, remember I'm bone stock and unlocked, no lockers on this 80 series I had. I walked down the drop into Hell's Gate and thought it looked gnarly but doable. We drop in fine and continue to the way out. I saw the way out and thought, shit what did I get into??? Really tried to pick out a good line to get up and out of the obstacle. Got very lucky and didn't even chirp a tire. I'll never forget that. Heart pounding and racing and nervous as hell. Any that have done it, know exactly what I'm talking about. Damn.

Nice, yeah it's something else. Make it to the dollhouse? Some of my favorite camping in Moab area is there in the Maze district.

Just curious. What's the deal with Moab? It's always talked about in such high regard, in any offroad circle I've seen, but it's always painted in such a way that it makes it seem like it's for veterans with years of experience and a highly-built rig. I have no idea if I am getting the wrong impression or if it's really not for beginners with minimal mods. Not interested in going, at least not yet. Heavens no, I am nowhere near ready for it, I assume. I'm just wondering.

Moab is an outdoors mecca. TONS of hiking, biking, offroading, climbing, canyonering, and more.

From an offroad stand point. Its stupid fun. Slickrock is very grippy and fun to wheeling on.

In terms of you need a super built up rig to go..horse shit. TONS of trails in the area. Plenty of simple trails and roads that most cars can do. All the way up to rock buggy status. One of the cool things about the place, there are trails for everyone. It is also just one of the most unique and beautiful areas in the world. Gorgeous canyons everywhere, mountains as well, and tons of ancient history too.

I grew up in Southern Utah, so I'm biased.

Moab is an incredible place for way more than just wheeling. You have two national parks nearby, the Colorado River for whitewater rafting, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, and quite a few great food joints in town.

If you don't want to deal with the usual Moab scene, Monticello and the country around there is super cool. Same goes for the La Sal Mountains, the Abajos, the Henry Mountains... The list is damn near endless.

But for wheeling, specifically on slickrock sandstone, Moab is the Mecca for good reason. Part of that is because there are tons of trail options, and not all of them are for badass built crawlers. Plenty of mild, scenic trails too if you're not looking for high pucker factor stuff.

The drive was decent, just there was no chance for using cruise and the pucker factor waiting for the next patch of black ice to appear. left me with a tension headache for the next 3 after I got home.

Get out there while the getting is good.

haha i just Moab so loosely. Was barely there this last week. Utah has SOOOOO much shit to go see and explore. Blows my mind. Tons of road development and trails.

Were as up here in Wyo/MT/ID it is a ton of back country stuff.

    Apples and oranges i guess.

I'd love to backpack in the Wind River Range someday. But not when the mosquitos are liable to bleed me dry!
