Recently I went to start my truck early in the morning and it was dead (did not leave any lights on or anything else electrical). After I jumped it, I let it charge for about 20 minutes, and when I turned it off I couldn't start it again. I tried to jump it for the second time and it wouldn't work. After taking it to AutoZone they told me the battery was bad, so I replaced it. When I attached the new battery, the radio would not turn on and hasn't since. I checked the fuses and they aren't burnt or broken.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips I could follow? The radio is a stock radio and has the display screen with a power and tuning knob. The CD player is mounted on top of the radio. The clock and 12V ports work, but the USB/AUX ports do not.

Ok this is a bit of a long shot but I had a sprinter van at work do this. I removed the radio fuse for about 10 minutes, put it back, and it worked. I think it had something to do with the anti theft BS. No idea if it works on a Tacoma but very easy to try.

I tried that and no joy. Thinking bout disconnecting the battery again and giving that a try. Other than that, I may just take it to a mechanic. Thanks for the suggestions gents

Check the owners manual for radio issues.

I searched the online manual for radio issues. I didn't see anything related.

The radio only needs +12v and ground to turn on. Have you tried removing the radio to check the car side connectors with a multimeter?

I am having the same problem with my 2003. Checked the pin-outs on the plug with a volt meter. I have 12V on the battery pin and 12V on the ignition pin when the key is turned to the first position. Radio display remains blank when I try and turn it on. I called several dealers to check if there was a code to enter and I got several different answers (which means they don't know). Here's the kicker: I picked up a used one on ebay and it's doing the same thing. What are the chances that 2 radios have the same problem? Pretty slim. Would really appreciate any advice.

Sorry, no solution here, but I'm having the same issue with my 2003 that I just bought. The stock radio wouldn't power on when I bought it, the seller said he knew it was a good radio because it worked in another taco. When I got it home I took out the radio and checked the voltage at the connector using the connector's ground wire, 12 volts on the ignition wire with acc on, but only 9 volts or so on the constant battery power wire, even with the truck running. I went ahead and bought a new battery, since this one was on it's way out anyway. I also purchased a new Kenwood head unit with the appropriate Metra wiring harness, thinking the stock radio might have died.

I wired everything up, and checked voltage at the Kenwood termination. 12v at ignition wire with acc on, 12v at constant battery wire. So I thought I would be good to go, but not so. Neither the new Kenwood nor the stock radio will power on. I'm at a complete loss as to what it could be. How could these things not at least power on with proper voltage at the right wires?

Sorry to hear that you've got a similar problem. I finally gave up on the OEM radio and bought a Blaupunkt from Crutchfield. Had to do the wire splicing thing but it all worked. Unit powered up right away. It sounds and looks great and fit perfectly. It's got the Bluetooth functionality so it's way better than the OEM radio.

Think it could be something wired wrong in the replacement harness? I have the OEM pinout sheet if you need a copy.

Was there any solution here? Turned my truck on this morning, no power at all to radio, all fuses (2 in engine bay and 1 in cab) are good. Any other ideas?

    If you're getting power
There's constant 12v for memory and Accessory 12v, radio needs both.

Check the harness for ground, 12v Constant ( 12v when key is off), and 12v Accessory ( 12v when key is on). If you have all of them, your radio is possibly fried.

Next time make sure the radio is off when you're jumpstarting a vehicle.

I found the problem with mine. Even though I was reading 12v constant at the harness with a volt meter, when a load was applied to it (ie trying to turning the radio on), the voltage would drop enough so that it wouldn't actually power on.

Don't know if it was a loose connection or damaged wire somewhere, but my solution was to install an add-a-fuse in the panel under the steering wheel in one of the slots that supplies constant 12v. I then removed the old 12v constant pin on the harness and ran a wire with a replacement pin from the add-a-fuse to the harness. Radio has worked perfectly for almost a year now.
