@Techoma are you gonna join us? Plans seem to keep changing, might could end up as far as AZ too.

You know why I won't get rid of my 05 PreRunner (I think) so the plan was to SAS\LS1 it so I could get a little more serious with my overlanding and explore a little more with or without others. The first shop that said they'd do it was flaking out, and I just didn't feel comfortable, so I engaged with another joint.

Originally it was going to be around 20 K for SAS and 3 link with a little strengthening of the frame. Then I figured LS1 since tranny and xfer case had to be done anyway... so up to 25K, which I was prepped for. It was going to take approx. 6 weeks.

I needed a daily driver, so I gave the same shop my street legal sand rail to do a couple quick mods to since I was slacking. It was going to take 2 weeks as it wasn't a priority for me or them. At the 4 week mark we discovered a compression issue and added a rebuild to the motor which was only going to add one week. So now we are at 4 weeks and as I drove by early last week, the motor was still out and chatted with them. Blah, blah, blah.... 2 weeks more. We discussed other aspects of the taco, and I was told I need to be prepared for a 10% or so over run on the budget as its all custom.

So my mind starts thinking it will be 30K and 6 months before they get it done... if I'm lucky as I could have already finished the sand rail myself. I thought if I could find a GOOD 4x4 for under 10K, I could throw 10K at it, have my Tacoma in tact, a spare expo rig, one being a 4x4, AND save a few bucks! 2 days later I'm buying the Landcruiser (Tuesday the 21st).

Today, I dropped it off the 37's it came with and put 5 new 35's on her. I also put 4 new 35's on the Taco taking her up from 32.5's. I have 4.88's ordered for the front and rear of the LC as well as the Taco, and lockers for front and rear of LC and Taco. Additionally, I'm getting a PrinSu and CVT as well. So, for just a little under the 25K, I will have both rigs completely outfitted and ready to go!

To really catch you up, I purchased another Sand Rail as well. This one is not street legal, and is so strong, it does some scary ass wheelies. I already tore the sidewall of one of my paddle tires gunning it. It may be the vehicle I die in!!! LOL

So, there ya go, no more SAS\LSI, but a beast of an expo rig!!!

Yea I believe I know, I find myself thinking of you and your family a good bit.
That's sad to hear about the shops. They pretty much make kits to do a SAS so unless the shop has little idea what they're doing it shouldn't run over budget. I think the LC was a good smart buy, you've got 2 capable rigs lol not including the sand rails. I'd love to ride around in one. Hell I'd love to get back out west, no matter what my thoughts were before it will always be the first of many homes. I've been throwing around the idea of getting an LC/RR myself. My wife likes the discoveries, and I want a project to really dive into. I'm thinking pick up a good body/frame and drop in a Cummins r2.8 Repower crate engine!

I look forward to seeing you wherever this adventure takes us.

Just make sure what you got/get can handle the output of your alternator. Your battery cables to the winch need to handle the load of the winch.
