yeah thats how i feel about my p320c rx. The trigger pull is just a little too heavy. but i also dont want to lighten it by too much.

 

Picked up a Remington 700 308 today and looking to mount this scope that I already had

Should I go a 1 piece picatinny or a 1 piece traditional mount? Looking to use all Leupold hardware

 

Id go traditional keep the picatinny rails for ar-15

 

no issues with the windage screws on the rear mount? or is that what blue Loctite is for?

 

If it's a tactical build, I'd recommend an EGW one piece base and picatinny rings. If it's a lighter build like a CDL or something, I'd recommend a standard two piece base and rings to save weight and get the right look.

 

Thanks for the input! It's primarily going to be a hunting rifle. How about the two piece cross slot bases with picatinny rings. I like the idea of picatinny rings for some reason

I always loctite the mounts/rings...better safe than sorry..

Strength of what? If the mounts are mounted securely and the rings are aligned correctly, that is realistically as strong as you're going to get or need to get!

 

transferring recoil through the scope tube. if the mount is stiffer than the tube, it will take the recoil instead of the scope tube.

 

I have never heard of this. The biggest issue to me is that a 2-piece base has more potential to be out of perfect alignment, possibly stressing the scope tube if not lapped.

??????what. The whole set up should be stiff, the scope being able to handle the recoil is up to the quality of scope\ manufacture

 

If you go 20 MOA it actually reduces the clearance for the bell, because it angles the front of the scope down. So you would have less clearance, not more. I don't know what height you'd need - those Leupold bases look pretty low profile so you'll probably need high rings. You might get away with mediums if you use an EGW. They're pretty tall.

 

That is obviously more the concern that most people have. With that said, all scopes amounts should be trued to one another, in other words the scope rings need to be checked first to see how far out of true meant they are and then lapped to true,

the 2 piece Leupold mounts are standard, and the website calls for high rings for the scope I currently have. The one piece I am looking at is 20 MOA.

 

Traditional hunting rifles have used two piece mounts for the last 50 years and as long as they're mounted correctly, do not have issues. You certainly could use a one piece mount,and there's nothing wrong with that.but two-piece will work just as good, the downside being adjustability of where you want to put your rings/scope. But like I said the two piece work well and are put specifically in the medium of where you would normally mount your rings anyway giving you adjustment room.

 

You can certainly go with the one piece with the 20 MOA in it, get that first and then dry mock up your scope on it to figure out the ring heights that you will need. This is a perfect example of doing that
