Has this ever happened to anyone? I found a screw in the shoulder of my new tires this weekend so I called Discount Tire and they ordered me a free replacement because of the warranty. I was there this afternoon for them to swap it out and when I walked out to leave I inspected the wheel and found this!

    IMG_0441.jpgIMG_0440.jpgIMG_0427.jpg

The manager claimed that it is impossible for that to happen when swapping tires but I know for a damn fact the wheels were flawless when I got there. (Dirty, but damage free) I know this because when I found the screw on Saturday my first thought was to inspect every wheel and tire to be sure there was nothing else.

We argued back and forth because he wasn't going to take responsibility and I know for a fact they caused it.

After a few minutes of talking about it and going through their process as well as talking to the tech, he finally said "fuck it, do you want a new wheel? I'll buy you the wheel if that's what you want but I'm telling you this didn't happen from us"

That's literally all I wanted to hear him say.

So I made a deal with him so I could have a full size spare, he gave me a brand new wheel and another new tire at 50% off of each.

$175 for a new Method 17x9 and General Grabber 265/70

I figured this is roughly the same cost for a new tire mounted with the warranty if he had given me a wheel for free anyway.

That damage does look a bit old. Without a joint inspection upon receiving and then delivery, I'd probably have balked too.

Always, always, always take pics of your rims before a tire change. Do it far enough back that you can can tell which rim/tire it is with a hi quality camera that you can zoom in on. With a timestamp.

I would just take the tire and go somewhere to do the install. They might mess with your hood as a payback

The wheels are like 3 weeks old if that.
They've barely seen dirt other than from the shitty weather and all the sand on the roads we've been having

When you took a picture of the tire with the screw in it, did you happen to get a full pic of the wheel?
That would give something to compare to.

they must be coating your roads with bleach if your "freshly damaged" wheels corroded that quickly

Could have been a rock the size of a baseball flying up when offroading you probably wouldn't have even noticed it when driving but it definitely would have marred the edge like that

The picture is shitty but it's not corroded it's just blackish. My guess from the paint that used to be where the new gash is.

I'm curious to see closer pictures of the damage.
Are these painted or powder coated from manufacturer?
    Who makes these wheels?

It does look like old damage. But since the area around the scratch is clean, and there are finger prints to the right of the damage, it makes me think it could have easily been done by the guy removing the tire, as that's exactly where his hand would be when setting the machine arm to remove the tire. (If it was that arm that scratch the rim).

Many aftermarket rims are total shit quality finish wise, they must be a nightmare for tire shops.

I'm not a tire expert but that screw looks like an awkward spot to be picked up on the road

Looks like someone took a drill to it
