How much effort does it really take to drive over and sit there while they replace the wheels? And they are completely fine with letting you order new ones yourself so you know they are good....

Don't be a princess, accidents happen and they are trying to do right on it. Plus it's wheels at least it wasn't the body.

See if they'll let you keep the old wheels. You could easily refurbish them and sell them for cheaper as refurbished. That can be your compensation for having to drive over and drink some coffee while they replace the wheels.

That would be the case in an ideal world and I agree 10000 fold but try working in the industry for many years. I have integrity and skill but mistakes happen. Unfortunately there ARE people out there who really just don't give a shit. Normally these people don't last long at high end dealers but instead end up at tire shops and places like Midas. Its a fuggin fact.
There are great techs at tire shops and independent shops but the higher paying positions are usually filled at dealers with seasoned techs who try to provide good customer service. Yes there are bad techs there too but again their longevity is usually based on their performance.
I think what people are forgetting here or maybe don't know is that they are mounting BFG truck tires onto Toyota wheels. They are not some super hard to mount low profile 20 inch tire. BGFs are very heavy but will usually flop down onto the wheel with little effort. The scratch is from the arm that pushes the bead down over the lip of the rim. Whether this is tech neglect or mechanical error of the machine is purely speculation. Either way this is less likely to happen at dealerships IMHO
A place that pays 20+ dollars an hour usually holds its employees more accountable for their actions compared to a place that pays their employees minimum wage.

This has happened to me on a brand new set of FN Six shooters. I requested they buy all new wheels, which they did. We swapped new rims for the damaged, and I inquired what they are going to do with the damaged ones. They said they would put them up for sale, so I offered to purchase them.. of course at a discounted rate. I ended up buying my damaged rims for cheep, and turning around and selling them (on here, no less). It was an annoying process, but I came out ahead.

My question is ...did they tell you that they damaged them, or did they pull the truck up and try to pass it by you?

I think that would be a be a big Factor in the temperament I took with the situation.

Mistakes happen........really. If I left my truck in the care of a professional tire shop then I expect them to take care of my property and do a professional job. This sounds more like pure incompetence on the shops part. I am paying you to do a job. I am not paying you to make my situation worse. With that said, they should be held accountable and FULLY responsible to do the right thing.

I'm planning on getting my duratracs from Canadian Tire, they're kind of like walmart now, although they started as a tire store.
But they're known for being idiots.
Hell I worked at one when I was in highschool years ago, somehow managed to not put all the lug nuts on a vehicle and drove it out of the shop and parked it, when they went to move it to deliver it to the customer at the door the rear wheels fell off.

So many stories of them damaging wheels or TPMS. Although I don't like going through them they're the only place I can get the duratracs for a good price, and they have a great warranty. Any damaged tire they can't repair they replace the whole set. its all including in the install fees and its around $150 for the full set but still, full set is less than other tire shops.

Just making me nervous as shit to have them do mine.

But anyways, if they're offering to get you new wheels just take it. Sure its going to waste your time, but at least they are trying to make it right. I've heard of other tire shops doing similar stuff and doing fuck all about repairing.
If they didn't tell you about it and tried to slide it under your nose I'd be a bit pissed off though.

I agree. If they are looking to replace them and make it right then let them and move on. So tired of people with their hand out

A tire shop that, in 2017, can't take the time to be carful with alloy wheels isn't worth a crap IMHO.

Screw the repaint! You want brand new wheels just like they were before the install.
How do you know the repaint will look right? And if they do repaint them and they look like crap what are you going to do then? Ask them to repaint them again because the color is slightly off (as an example)? No Way, new Wheels!
