This is specific to 95-96 4x4 version, with manual locking hubs, manual transmission and manual transfer case. Does anyone has the electrical diagram of 4x4 system? I have diagram of 2003 model, but it is for full blown 4x4 automation. My truck is basic version of basic model with no gadgets at all. I mean nothing, manual windows, mirrors and locks. I don't even have rear speakers, that Ex cab supposed to have. The only luxury items I have is a clock and A/C. Oh, almost forgot, I have also electrical wipers

So in my fuse panel (under dash) I have 15A fuse for 4x4 system. My truck is 4x4 but the only thing electrical in it is the 4x4 light on the dash that is turned on when I switch to 4WD. I have manual locking hubs, and 4WD lever is like a lever, no "2-4 selector knob". No actuators. So what is behind that fuse, where the wire goes, what is it powering?

Also, I'd love to see the JB/1 internal diagram for 95-96 Tacoma. I have that diagram from FSM for 2003 Tacoma and my 2012 4Runner - helps a lot when trying to tap into circuit. But for my 95 Tacoma I have only electrical diagram from Haynes Repair book, not as good as FSM.

I have the FSM manual and the electrical FSM, I can try and post a pic, I'll see if I can make this happen. Not real tech savy.

It is possible that fuse is for if your truck did have ADD .

Did you own this from New ??

Is it possible the fuse block or the cover has been swapped??

What stops working when the fuse is removed ??

I did get it "like new" (no mods whatsoever). So fuse block and cover are original. I haven't try to remove the fuse, I suspect (almost know for sure) that it has power when ignition is on, and I can use that power if it is available :). But instead of doing fuse tap, (which looks ghetto IMHO) I'd like to get to relevant contact in JB/1 (if it is not used). This is for my DRL mod, where I need about 1.2A when ignition is on. From 2003 diagram it looks like 4x4 fuse is powered from the same bus as turn signal fuse which would work for me. I wonder how close this 2003 diagram is to my 95.

Thank you, got them both. I already had the FSM, but it's only mechanical (good stuff, BTW) and electrical is mostly for diagnostics, not diagrams. Now I have collected diagrams for 2003, 2001 and 2000 (also good stuff) - they are in the nice format where each connector and pin is marked. I wish I have something like that for 95-96. Haynes diagrams are OK for understanding how stuff works, but they are missing connector/pin numbers and that is a major flaw. Comparing all these three I see there is a "jump" in design between 2000 and 2001. in 200 the 4x4 fuse was on pin12 connector 1B, in 2001 and 2003 it is on connector 1J pin 1. All three have whole bunch of electronics sensors and actuators related to 4x4 (transfer case actuator, locking hubs, e-locker) that are powered form 4x4 20A fuse. While my truck doesn't have any of these (I don't even have ABS :)) I wonder if this fuse is even used or connected to anything.

Thank you guys for your help. So far it looks like that fuse is just for show. If 2000 diagram is close to 95 and giving my truck has no available "premium" options : no Rear Diff. Lock, no Automatic Differential Disconnect (ADD), no ABS, no 2–4 Select SW, Manual Transmission, 3RZ-FE engine this is what the flow would look like (I marked components I have in blue, and required connections in red):

    2000 Overall Wiring Diagram03.jpg

Following all diagrams for 2000 I found that 20A 4WD fuse would also power 4WD ECU which is used for 2–4 Select SW and "4WD CONTROL ECU" used for Rear Diff. Lock. On diagrams they are marked as a separate ECUs and I don't know if they are just different versions or different units. Anyway I don't have any of that options so probably I don't have any of these ECUs. Possibly the wiring might be there but I don't expect more than that.

I'm working on adding an elocker axle to my 99 2.7L automatic 2wd. I also have the 20amp fuse in the fuse box on the dash. Obviously the B-Y wire comes from that fuse. I pulled the fuse box down and found the B-Y wire at the fuse box and I believe it goes to the junction box no. 3, which is behind the instrument cluster on the right hand side (It's a block of 5-6 large connectors). My truck obviously would have no need for this wire, but I am thinking that it was just part of the harness.

Thanks, this all makes sense. Looking at FSM mechanical for 95-96 model I see there is an option for ADD and e-locker. 2-4 SW not available I4, but available for V6 engine.

Now marking all wires I should not have in my model (W/O ABS, 3RZ-FW M/T, W/O ADD Relay) in yellow, and not used wires in green my wiring (in red) looks very simple and 15A 4WD fuse is not used (probably only connected to ADD Relay socket). So I guess I found 15A spare power source in my truck :). What do you think?

I make up elocker harnesses from scratch. Very simple to do. Uses LowRange elocker switch. But if you're looking for the factory look. You're headed the right direction.

I'd use that open fuse spot if all the terminals are there.

That's what I do. Internal diagram of JB/1 confirms that 15A 4WD fuse goes to pin 12 on connector 1B. I just need to find that 1B connector.
