3rd Gen DIY maintenance quick reference

I seriously considered it because of it's availability but after much research I still chose to order some Redline online.
That's probably not really the informative answer you're looking for but it's all I've got.

I don't have an answer for you atm but I can check the FSM for you within a couple days. I'm moving.

 

They do, but it does not ever have to be replaced. It's desired to never remove the transmission pan. I would only consider replacing it, if I was already pulling the pan for another issue.

 

Any reason you went with the redline?

 

As far as my research went, the three most popular options for diff fluid were Amsoil, Mobil 1 and Redline.
I felt Redline was the best product out of those three.
Just my opinion though.

 

I was reffering to differential Fluid.
I don't think the FSM suggests anything but OEM Toyota WS Fluid.

 

Thanks renau001. I thought if there was a filter maybe I should get it changed. I like to change all the fluids and filters at around 500 to a 1000 miles on a new vehicle. Gets all the breakin material out of the systems.

 

I have come to the same conclusion
There doesn't seem to be a good substitute for the OEM stuff for the transmission

Considering the exact same gaskets are used on the FJ w.r.t. diffs/transfer, I'm going to guess with 99.99% certainty that the MT uses the same gasket as the transfer case, PN 90430-18008 (old number) which is cross listed with 90430-A0003. Will need 2x for drain and fill port.

 

Here are the results after changing my rear diff fluid today and adding the Lucas Oil Anti-Squawk / Anti-Shudder Additive as well.
The drain plug had lots of crap stuck to it.
I was surprised as to how contaminated the fluid had become in 4300 kms.
I could run my finger through the fluid and it would stir up significant amount of debris that would swirl around.

 

Does the rear Diff need the Friction modifier additive?? OR just regular 75-90 weight? And how much for a 2016 Off Road Tacoma?

Manual does not say anything about requiring a friction modifier.
The reason I added something to mine is explained here: Hum on deceleration

Fluid the manual states is 75W85 GL5 or equivalent.
Rear Diff Volume - 3.1-4.2 qts (varies with model)
Mine took the 16oz additive plus 4 quarts of fluid. I have a 2017 TRD Sport 6MT

 

Just did my diff fluids and MT fluid today. I paid for TIS for two days just to be sure, but the write up on page one was the exact same (could've saved myself 15 dollars)! I did not add a friction modifier to the rear diff as Amsoil claims their Severe Gear comes with it. @renau001 I tried to do a full write up so it may be worth linking in the first post (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-manual-transmission-6mt-fluid-change.481719/).

Anybody know if these are rated for 400 lbs. motorcycle? I looked through our 640 page manual and could not find it. Or do I need to install bed bolts

Maybe this was addressed earlier, but everywhere I check for the engine air filter specified on the first page of this thread (Toyota part # 17801-0P180) it says the part is no longer available. Is there a new part and number for the engine air filter? Thanks.

 

toyota seems to update the air filter part #'s all the time. if somebody can tell me the updated part # I'll update the OP.

 

Hi Op, #17801-0P100, is what I found for the updated engine air filter for 3.5L. There ya go.
