In my experience, howling sounds that are throttle sensitive instead of speed sensitive are usually caused by the differential. I'm on my second differential and it's louder than the first.

For those of you who like to jump all over Smitty, just because his posts are overwhelmingly negative doesn't mean they're wrong. His howling was diagnosed by a Toyota dealership with a stethoscope hooked to the differential. They were convinced that it was the differential.

If mine wasn't the differential then changing the differential wouldn't have had an impact on the sound one way or another. By it changing, unfortunately for the worse, I'm convinced that they were right to suspect the differential.

Just had my lift, wheels and tires installed today and now I can't get it to make the sound. Not sure why that would've changed anything unless it's a driveline angle issue. Can't complain I guess.

Maybe you found the fix! We all just need the lift and tires you have!!! If only that would work.

Maybe the tires drown out the Howling.

Probably the case. Seeing as I complained about it to my dealer last week and got the it's normal and we didn't hear it response the hum of the tires is the only fix that worked for me.

Yes. I've had the TSB for the rear differential howling done too. It didn't help.

I don't believe it has to do with the viscosity of the fluid as I had the TSB done and its mostly gone by now
