I know I know... Holy thread resurrection. But I figure it's better than making my own post.

This thread just confused me. The missing pics might be part of it. What exactly was the issue? The couple other pics/threads I've seen looked like guys just cut everything back 2" or so (both fender and flare) and called it a day. That being said no one I've seen has posted pics detailing how they reattached the flares, splash guard, and got everything groovy after they were done.. IF there actually is more to it. The close up pic the OP posted of relentless's trimmed fender and flare looks like there was more fabbing/modding done than a simple cut-reattach.

Anyone have any info/threads/write ups they can send my way?

And for anyone else in the future who stumbles upon this time capsule... Here are two threads that have some fender trimming pics... Like I said they really only focus on the cutting and that's about it.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-4x4-35s-3-lift-w-o-body-lift.285871/page-2

... I can probably just message relentless and the OP

I used a sawzall for the fender with a nice blade, cut like butter. For the flares I used a razor blade, real slow and many cuts over and over to get through the whole thing. Go SLOW so you don't slip. It turns out smooth as silk with a razor. Use a new blade on each flare helps too. Just take your time.

Did you end up trimming your flare as well?

Yes, I used a razor to trim the flare. It took many passes but it made a very clean cut, much better than any saw. just dont slip. The very last cut on the last flare I sliped at the very end and I cut the fawk out of my finger. Should have got stitches, but as any Man would do I sealed it up with some super glue and duct tape...haha

Stitches are for bitches, good on ya.

I get trimming the sheet metal. It's pretty obvious how to handle that step.

I'm having trouble understanding how the flares are trimmed. Are you cutting two inches out of the flare and welding it back together? Got any in-progress pics? How much material did you end up removing from the flare? Any tips, tricks or other advice?

I plan on using a grinder on the fender, a razor on the flare, and a soldering gun to weld the flare back together. Then I'll sand and paint to match factory paint. My big hang-up is trimming the flare and exactly how to reattach it.

I've also heard talk of using black silicon sealant to reattach the flares, any experience with that?

Thanks for the replies by the way, much appreciated.

I used a grinder to do the fenders and a jigsaw to cut my flares. Installed some automotive door edge trim along the flares. I did not put my flare back together. Too much shit gets trapped up behind that lip. As for reattaching, I took pics of the stock clips and their colour orientation. Any that broke I replaced from stealership. So far (going on 3yrs) no problems with the flares falling off or flapping around. Hope this helps

I cut about 2 1/4" off of both the fender and the flare. Don't worry about the part you cut off, I would not try to reattach it. As for the clips, some will brake just pick some up from the stealership or they got cheap ones on Amazon. I liked using a saw over a grinder. Grinder with a cut off wheel is too messy.

Resurrecting this one again... I've cut the flares and fenders, thanks the advice of this and other threads. It looks great!

Question: what do you all do to the inside of the fenders to help with rocks/debris noise once the liners are gone? Anything? I'm thinking of maybe lining it with a dynamat type material to absorb some of the pings and dings...

    Any advice?

I put a snorkel on and used rattle can bed liner on everything else.
