Seriously, if people believe this level of use is abuse or excessive, then why buy this POS truck!

[I don't think it is a POS btw]

You are correct, I assumed it was all steel now. It's not the same as old cast iron with the carbon content being carefully controlled (I'm not sure about china, they add lead to everything).

Right, because anyone just has 3000lbs of rocks and a bucket to hold them laying around... we're talking about a dude doing some doughnuts in the dirt, I'd be pissed if it happened to me in a new GM truck as well.

    Not the point.

Point was, what they do in commercials isn't what they cover warranty for owners doing. GM doesn't destroy a truck in their commercials anymore, so there's no expectations that an owner can do the same shit and have the truck fixed for free when they completely fuck it up.

I didn't say anything about the truck doing donuts, cuz IDGAF.

People do donuts on the street all the time where the tire slips and catches loading up the drivetrain. To do donuts on dirt where you have less traction and less loading of the drivetrain this is unacceptable to being abuse. Mildly modded pre-runners push their toys harder making this guy look like he is playing in a kiddy sand box.

I highly doubt dents in the bed from dropping rocks in the bed would be a warranty issue, that sounds more like something that would get turned into insurance.

As someone who's done hundreds of doughnuts in all three generations of Tacoma I'm not too surprised by this outcome. First of all that was a horrible surface to do donuts on, you can tell at the start of the video there's a lot of tiny whoops and rocks to get hung up on and that looks like thicker high traction dirt, it would've honestly been easier on the drive train to do donuts on flat pavement than that stuff. Secondly this guy did not carry enough momentum with his slides, when you dig in at low speed halfway through your transitions is exactly when you can suddenly catch traction and fuckup your drivetrain or rip the tires off the beads, this guy did it twice and at exactly 38 seconds you can tell he is dugin pretty hard and slowed down to <10mph through that last slide, tried to torque his way through instead of relying on momentum. If it he had hit that same transition at 20mph+ the tires wouldn't have been able to dig in and he would've slid right through the transition and over the whoops, you can see his inner right wheel gets hungup right before you hear the POP.

I've ripped enough tires right off the wheels to know the forces involved in fucking around like this. The force required to rip a tire clean off the wheel is plenty enough force to also fuckup your differential if that's where the binding happens. You need to either do it in SOFT smooth sand, mud, snow, or wet pavement, or worst case even dry pavement. Dry rutted dirt is the WORST place to do donuts and if you're going to try you need to be good at it, hit it with speed and carry momentum through your slides, enough RPM and momentum and you'll prevent sudden traction.

His tail also didn't seem happy enough given his steering inputs, I'm just guessing but it looks like he may have had his traction control on or maybe aired down his tires. When I fuck around like this I air UP to make sure my tail is nice and happy/waggy.

For those that want to try you can NOT* just hit your traction button, that only turns off the stability control. You need to STOP, hold the button down for 3-4 seconds and then it will turn off BOTH the traction and stability control. You need to see TWO yellow warning lights before attempting slides like this.

I'm thinking there is waaaaaaayyyyy more to that video and this story we did not see. There is no way these trucks should break just doing donuts. Was he in 4WD while doing these, either way a few donuts should not blow the rear diff in my opinion..................

I was thinking he had the traction control on or had his tires aired down. But now that you mention it he may have actually just been in 4wd.

It also looks like he may have the longbed?? Anyone thinking about fucking around in their DCLB just DON'T. That extended wheelbase makes hooning a lot more stressful on your drivetrain your rear end will dig in a lot harder. Its the reason they never offered the TRD Offroad on the longbeds before, the frame is weaker when extended Toyota didn't want to encourage harder offroading on the longbeds. I imagine that is still true today even though they now make a TRD OR DCLongbed.

That's pretty disturbing, not normal. I used to run my 2nd generation Taco like that and no problem.

Did you just turn off vsc and trac by holding the bottom down for 3 to 5 seconds in 4h?

it sucks that you'd have to fix it out of pocket, this has me debating on going yukon gears (lifetime warranty) with my sport when I finally invest in ARB's..

I heard the differential shot at the very beginning, 6 seconds. Did he blow the diff a while ago doing something else and just film it here and we think this donut run is what caused it ?
    Looks like it.
