Hey all! Still new to TW, so just hang with me. So I have done a thing today. I attempted to do a spacer mod for the clutch pedal. this mod will allow you to remove the free play in the Clutch pedal assembly. I Just removed the Green disc that pushes the Cruise control switch and put a nut and bolt with a washer in its place. This removed roughly 1" of free play. My only concern is, I can "Feel the engine" in the pedal. when I press the clutch in I can still feel maybe a 1/3" of play before the rod pushes on the plunger, clutch does not slip at all. So I guess the question is, would that be a symptom of it riding the clutch at all? putting pressure on the Bearing? I have tried to look this up and could not find anything that talked about it. I'll include the thread link. I found it under the "cheap/Free mods".

I'd say to check and see if your slave cylinder is starting to move at all. You could readjust the pedal back to where it has a little free play, measure or take a picture of the slave for reference and then adjust the pedal back to where you have it now and see if it moved. I had a shit load of free play in mine when I first got it but adjusting the rod going into the master out a couple turns got rid of it. I brought it out just enough to where I could feel the engine through the pedal like you described then I backed it off half a turn and thats how I left it.

Ok, I will try that. So If I am understanding correctly, you actually adjusted the Rod. I had a good inch and maybe 1 1/8" of dead space prior. I'll see about reverting it back tomorrow to see if it is. it feels amazing right now, I just want to prematurely detonate the already problematic TOB.

Yeah, the rod is what I believe your supposed to adjust for free play. There should be a tiny bit, just enough to where you can't feel the engine through the pedal seems like a good start.

What I noticed accounts for a lot of the slop in the pedal besides excess free play is side to side slop in the pivot. The pedal rides on a metal bushing with two plastic bushings at the pivot... the metal bushing gets sandwiched between the two pieces of stamped metal that hold the pedal in place. The metal bushing is slightly wider then the pedal which allows the pedal to wiggle in between the two metal pieces which causes the side to side play.

I've thought about sanding down one side of the bushing to make it more narrow (closer to the pedal width) and see if that helps.

Alright, So I got down under the dash again today, the bolt mod made it really nice, but I could hear it activating and not 100% disengaging. I took the washers out and now have about 3/4" of play. I know some play is good, like you said. I'm wondering if I adjust the rod on the back I could shorten the play a bit more. (NOT A LOT)

Any one else wanting to do this? Or any other solutions? The grab point on my 2nd is not ideal, the worst of any manual trans car I have owned.
