Heat vent slection

I drive a 13' Sport DCLB if it matters but the interior of all the truckskis look similar so I doubt it.

I have a magnetic wireless charger for my cell phone. It is designed to go onto the heat vents.


In the summer when I got it, everything worked great! Now that winter is here not so much. I never leave my heat on the face. It is always on the windshield/feet, or if I need to defrost the windshield quick, just the windshield. There is still a small amount of air coming out of the dash vents no matter what setting I turn the dial to.
In the instructions for the Mophie charger, it says not to use the heat vents it's clipped to while in place. The charger works great for the first 35-40 mins of a drive then heats up to hot and stops working.

First off, is it normal to still have some air coming out of the dash when that's not what is selected? I have seen threads where a door in the air system.gets blocked by foam, but that was always the windshield vent.

Here is my phone case sitting on the charger. I love the wireless charging and the location is super easy to see without blocking the view of the road.

 

That is just a terrible idea and design in my opinion. The whole HVAC system will have some air going trough it no matter what the dial is turned to. Check out the Tech deck or other ball mounts if you like to have your phone that close.

 

I like the location of those tech deck things, but it doesn't allow use of the wireless charger base.

 

If you haven't already found a solution I've heard of people putting that wireless charger into another vent mount to give some distance between the vent and charger. Like this one

I havent got one of these yet but i was wondering if the magnet is strong enough to hold onto the phone while driving offroad?

I was also wondering if you need the mophie phone case to make it work or if you could just attach a magnetic backing on the phone like this one

I ended up buying the tech deck,that mounts under the stereo. Not as ideal of a location, but works.

I do not do much offroading, but haven't manyspeed bumps and potholes a bit fast and it has never fallen.
It will charge a phone without the case, but only while parked. There are extra magnets in the case to help hold it up in the air. While moving it falls on the slightest bump.

On my old phone I have a magnetic mount plate like you posted. It was strong and held great, but no idea if it would work with them plus charging as that phone was not a wireless charge phone.
