I don't have a 3rd gen but I like the *idea* of an oil catch can. A few questions:

1: What are you doing with the oil being caught? Back into the engine, or recycle can?
2: If this much oil is coming out of the sump, why doesn't anyone notice at least a slight drop in oil level?
3: Long-term, will a catch can really make a difference in the useful life of my truck? I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off... it's got 130k miles and runs like new, even without a can on it. (If oil vapor was a serious problem for the intake and combustion chamber, I thought it would be obvious by the plugs I pulled at 100k. They looked great.)

    Thanks!

Been running the hose on mine since 5 years ago. Still supple, and flexible, for all PCV lines.

    Dispose/Recycle it!

A few ounces of oil every few thousand miles isn't going to be noticeable compared to our truck's 5.5qt (175oz) capacity, especially with a rough measurement device like the dipstick and regular oil changes.

Oil residue on spark plugs points to a lot larger problem than some PCV vapor/residue. Oil vapor is problem in normally aspirated engines primarily because it reduces the fuel's effective octane rating. It's more troublesome for those with forced induction and intercoolers. As the vapor coats and bakes on the intercooler, its effectiveness is reduced. Higher charge air temp coupled with reduced octane can lead to detonation/pinging, which can seriously damage the engine.

How does it open up for emptying? Are you going to have to take it out of the bracket to drain it?

No it stays in place. Your able to get a grip on it and turn it. It's well made - but simple. I mounted it lower because I wanted my hood struts to clear. I'm also going to change the PCV valve this week with a OEM one. Thanks!

There's other color for $35 with free shipping.
this is the one I ordered.

For BMWs and VWs they cost north of $300-400 so $70 for a reputable brand, I'll stick with this one

Installed it today. Needed some 3/8 hose as the crap that came with was not long enough and clear. I wanted black hose to be more subtle. 20170325_150644.jpg 20170325_152826.jpg 20170325_162118.jpg 20170325_162129.jpg

Yeah, idk why they would send the clear hose... save a dime I guess. Might as well of left it out completely.

I picked up an Add W1 can off of eBay, and an "L" bracket from the hardware store.

    oc1.jpg

I modified the bracket, and used the existing threaded holes in the fender.

    oc2.jpg

Now to see how much gunk it collects...

    A thing or two...
Bought an ADD W1 catch can used from a member here and installed it on my 2.7 a month or so ago. Checked it the other weekend after ~1000 miles and extremely little blow by captured so far. I'll check again when it's time for my next oil change in a few months.

Checked the can and it's working fine. A small amount after 98 Miles. Glad to have this addition to the Tacoma! Thanks.
