    Hey everyone,

I ended up finding a higher power LED bulb that would fit in the low beams. I've had them in for a week or so and they're doing great so far:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B2XPKNK

As for the other bulbs, they are still going strong except for the license plate lights. They seem to be flashing intermittently, but it's not too bothersome. I have a feeling that it might be related to water in the lens, but luckily those bulbs are cheap so I'll probably just replace them.

Wait, you use the same lights for the map lights add the license plate lights? Thought they were different.

Cool, thanks I'll have to try that as I have some extras. Might be more light than the ones in there.

My concern is the light thrown distance with LED in a projector housing more than anything. I have been looking at the Morimoto 2stroke LED bulbs but i have never bought into the Morimoto hype(or price). I have put HID's in about 20 vehicles always 5000k temp 35w now. But it's a lot of extra work over an LED since you have to have the ballasts and relay kit. i have used the same brand HID for years without any issues back when Morimoto was $200+ for HID I was paying about $50 a set from VVME side by side they were identical output color lumens etc. This was around 2011 the morimotos were failing all over, i believe it was related to DRL reduced power mode but all i knew was mine were fine while people were killing the morimotos. I have now started to get away from HID as LED has come up in brightness. I have used a set of nighteye LED headlights in a halogen fixture in my parents 2006 scion xb the light overall seemed to be less output then my xb with HID's but it was more light then the oem halogen either way. It was enough light that i had to reangle the beam so i wasn't blinding on coming traffic just like most HID installs i have done. these are the bulbs i used in that scenario https://www.amazon.com/NIGHTEYE-Headlight-Conversion-Driving-8000LM/dp/B01J7KJHZM They have since released a brighter also non-fan version of that bulb seen here these make no mention of canbus compatiblity is there a need for canbus error free bulbs on these trucks? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39QAyJrPHRw I am considering using in all 3 positions low/hi/fog my concern is having never used an LED in a projector housing before that the throw will be sub-par from the low beam and without a light meter and doing the swap on the same night there will be no way to verify the difference in throw. I just don't want 3 sets of bulbs worth $150 and a ton of cuts on my hands to find out that the throw is garbage. Then have to try and match a set of HID to the LED bulbs color. so my question is do people have before and afters with a fanless 8-10000lm LED in the low beam position only. I know LEDs can heat up pretty good has anyone melted a fog housing yet with LED bulbs? Its a super common issue with HIDs in fog housings.

Installed my new OPT7 FLUXBEAM X yesterday love these new lights. extremely easy install, no fitment issues, very happy with the product. I live in the suburbs and these lights have plenty of throw and good cutoff, they are brighter than the OEM halogens but don't expect them to be anything like HID's. they match the DRL'S perfect as well. No complaints and i highly recommend over the Morimoto due to the morimoto fitment issues.

Thanks for doing all the work for me / us all. I at 67, am losing my night time vision and have to back out of my 110 foot curved driveway in the dark. I often put on the cargo light and even with a six speed manual I'm able to ride the brake as I roll back to add extra illumination but this is just a bandaid. I'm considering purchasing those led backup and fog lights for my 2016 Tacoma TRD sports 4x4. The headlights are fine. Fog lights so so. Backup lights pathetic. I'll check it out. Your post is great. Appreciate it. Dannyblues

Toyota goofed! How many of us put tonneau covers on our cargo deck ... then the cab rear cargo lamp becomes useless! I was always groping in the dark for my groceries etc in the cargo deck under my truxsport fold up cargo cover.

A simple easy fix. Please don't laugh. It actually works and it's cheap, simple and fast!

I just purchased an LED flashlight that has numerous lights along its one side like a lighting strip plus a magnet on the other side. I simply magnetically attached it to the metal side of the rear left at the end of the cargo bed. At worst it just moves a bit but it's always at hand and just bright enough to illuminate the cargo area I'm dealing with plus it's a handy easily removable flashlight.

Hey it works. No drilling or attaching new internal cargo area lights that Toyota should have thought to do in the first place.

Don't those design engineers ever drive one of their products and try them out in every imaginable scenario? For instance my clutch peddle likes to stay on the floor when it's near zero for my first shift into gear. What do people in Canada or Maine or Minnesota do??? Dannyblues

chan, i found out that the amber turn signal l e d's are not correct. they are only 2 pole wherein the originals are 4 pole. so, the ambers are not on when the headlights are. also, when the head lights are on the signals hyper flash. when head light are not on, turn signals blink normally! strange!

I'd like to brighten up my back up lights and know nothing about lights. I know what an LED is but not HID. Etc. Does the bright LED hyperflash in the back up lights? As I've aged my night time vision has become worse. Backing out our long curved driveway is difficult as I live in a rural area.

I'd also like to add brighter fog lights.

Do any of these lights get hot enough to melt lenses? How does it effect the trucks wiring system.?
I have a 2016 TRD sport double cab 4x4 in black.

I'd also like brighter interior lamps.

Any help with this stuff? Dannyblues

Hyperflash happens more with flashing lights like the turn signal where and LED replacement doesn't pull enough load and appears to the vehicle that the bulb is out. There are resistor kits that fix this. Shouldn't be an issue with the various lights that don't flash.

This seems to be one of the best kits for this mainly because the replacement housing it comes in is designed for the high end LED they put in it: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/a...Toyota+Tacoma&preselect=&preselect_restrict=1

Higher wattage halogen or high wattage HIDs could heat the lenses over time, not sure if the truck is old enough for time to tell how much this will be. LEDs generally throw less heat through the lamp part but can get quite hot out the back of the lamp housing. Manufacturers will add fans and heat-sinks to combat this.

The fix for not damaging the trucks wiring would be the use of a relay. The relay is fed from the existing circuit to switch a feed that you wire from the battery..

There are various aftermarket LEDs for interior and exterior that can be brighter and some can be just whiter which may appear to be brighter. Bringing this up for your comment about needing more light for your backup light.

LEDs producing good usable light is best achieved when the housing it's installed into is designed for it. The same bulb in your flashlight can be significantly better than dropping the same bulb in a tail light that wasn't meant for it.

So your original list recommendations are good but sub out low beam here instead of original? I am ordering this week, great write-up. I also run fogs 100% , I have a tinted windshield so the extra light helps.
