Hi Guys - I'm looking for a relatively cheap/simple way to black out the chrome on my running boards. Wondering if you have any experience to share with specific paints products/brands that have worked well, or not worked well.

I would also consider using an aerosol can line-X type product if someone has had good experience going that route.

    Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

    Etching primer.

Some like Rustoleum Bedliner aerosol spray.

If they are oem (style) running boards, you might consider throwing them up for sale, and shopping craigslist for a black set. They are pretty common.

    Cool, thanks!

Also a good idea! Kind of takes the fun out doing the project, but I like where your head is at on the simplicity.

The aerosol bed liners are crap. No better than plastidip. They don't have the kevlar chunks in them so they aren't textured well either.

I'd honestly go to a Line-X dealer for a quote. Chrome you are going to have to sand off, its very difficult to paint.

You'll likely save yourself a lot of time and effort if you go to a bedliner dealer.

Good advice, thanks. I ended up buying a black set from Craigslist, so this chrome redo project is done! Until I decide to do something about the back bumper.
