that's a good point. the hump in the decklid that it would sit on is curved in both directions as well though, so hopefully some weatherstripping would take up the gap. it's also a fiberglass decklid with a lot of flex in it, so a couple of extra cranks will definitely pull the lid up to match the stiffer carbon fiber.

hmm, come to think of it though.....the wrx scoop is 4'' tall. i'll have to mock it up to make sure I have 4'' of clearance in the correct spot when I open the decklid.

So while I would like to go with a carbon scoop for the ease of installation, I may have to build my own louvers due to the clearance between the decklind and rear of the roof.

here are some pictures of the hump that the scoop or vent will go on, and the clearance when the lid is opened.

    2017-03-27 19.09.59.jpg

As much as I like the shape of the WRX scoop, it may be too tall and interfere with the roof. while it doesn't look as nice, I did find this one. it's about a 10''x10'' square, so not quite as wide as I'd like, but wide enough.

sonofabitch! I don't know how you do it with some of your wait times on parts and labor services @Torspd you're a far more patient man than I.

finally found a scoop that will work......located in austrailia, with a 4 month lead time. I can't even order it if I wanted to wait that long, since i'll be living in another state by the time it would show up.

You could, but you would have to correspond with them directly, and regularly.

My patience has been tested like a tug boat pushing against a glacier. Lol

Thinking out loud here. if I go with the aluminum louvers, it looks like I have two options. the small angled ones, placed on top of the decklid hump, or some longer rectangular ones with a single bend in them to contour the hump. sketches are far from scale.....

I think I would still prefer the wrx or similar scoop if it will fit, but this appears to be a good option otherwise.

Aight! last one for a little bit.....

it looks like a mini cooper scoop mat be an option. there are a number of companies that make carbon fiber ones, but an ABS plastic one for sale was the only place I could find a picture of the underside. this aftermarket plastic replacement has a perfectly flat bottom. it would lead me to believe that the carbon ones are no different. when installed in the mini, it's angled up on the hood, creating a scoop. on my application, it would lay flat, and be a recessed vent.

    factory plastic replacement

Call them up and see if they can give you one without the clips.

Another good idea. Communications sent their way.

If they are the manufacturer, I don't see a problem with that. If they are a retailer for a Chinese made part, I'll be cutting tabs for sure.

Vent installed, and the scoops shipped out from the Neatherlands today!

the Mini Cooper hood scoop worked out great. the carbon work is done very well. the scoop is less than half a pound.

took some measurements to center it up and figure out the hole size and position needed. then went to town with the die grinder. after cutting into the Tacoma so many times, it was alarming how easy it was to make a permanent hole in this thing.

Selfie for safety! cutting the fiberglass decklid reminded me of my days working as a yacht tech years ago. only this time, I remembered to sinch down my sleeves and button up my shirt to keep from getting all kinds of itchy

and in it goes. nice and flush. currently held in place with 3M VBH. will bolt it down if I run into issues with the 3M

    Dude! That looks terrific!

Is that the 3M tape with the red backing on it? If so, it is some strong stuff.

The fact that the vent is tapered the opposite direction of the deck lid hump bothers my ocd, haha.
