You definitely went the extra mile. If I buy from Crutchfield they have a few kits depending what you want to do. It takes work but seems easy enough.

Yeah, I tend to do that. When I do something, I tend to not like revisiting it to redo it.

Crutchfield has the CRUX SWRTY-61n. That will save you a lot on figuring out a lot of things like the steering wheel controls and camera integration.

I cannot say I have ever purchased from them, but I always hear good things. Being tied to the industry, I get things from friends who are reps or the owners that I know or worked with.

Was the 5800 pretty straight forward on the install? Any trimming or fitment issues

Depends on what year Tacoma you are putting it into. My 2015, I had to trim the back panel to fit the group of wires. No such thing had to be done on my 2007. For the 5800 in the 2007, wiring it up is like any other head unit, but it depends on what you truck already has. This one had nothing factory in it so when I added Sirius Radio, I had to run the wires for the antenna. I added a back up camera, so installed that and had to run the wires too. Bluetooth microphone had to be mounted (on top of rear view mirror) and then the wires ran. There was no steering wheel controls, so I purchased a good used steering wheel and new clock spring. Once that was complete, then I could add the steering wheel control adapter to the 5800. I used the Axxess ASWC-1. As far as the Scosche kit fitting, like a glove. It bolted right in and fit perfectly.

The difference between the 5800 and the 8200 are not that much. Sure the 8200 has Navigation, Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto, and separate audio zones, but as far as the audio controls, quality and functions, they are the same, but with a huge price difference. But, the screen on the 8200 is what makes it the best. Every other radio on the market has a resistive touch screen, a plastic cover that you must depress to activate. It's cluggy and slow, but it works. The 8200 uses a capacitive touch. A glass screen that responds quickly and accurately, exactly like an iPad. It's not that the resistive touch is bad, it's the capacitive is way better.

I hope this answers everything for you. If not I am open for more questions.

Do you have steering wheel controls? Do you want Sirius Radio? Do you want a reverse camera? If so there is more to buy? Do want to use adapters for your wires or do you care to cut them up?

Then the Scosche faceplate and this guy for the wires. https://www.crutchfield.com/g_103000/Wiring-Harnesses.html

This harness will allow you to go back to stock if you needed (provided you have the stock radio)

The camera later comes with a yellow RCA plug which plugs into the brown (nice color match) plug in the rear of the 5800.

This is what it will look like installed.

Yes, I installed one in the tailgate handle, also installed one in the front grill. The 5800 has two video inputs. One can be used as a front camera. I purchased a universal mount ESKY camera with guidelines and mounted inside the grill.

Thanks, not sure I get out there to often, but the info I have given is readily written up. Here is what you won't see too much. Even if you are running stock speakers (which are total garbage) you must adjust the acoustics. Simple change: Add one layer of sound deadener to the inside of the door where the backside of the speaker is located. You don't need to tear apart the plastic inside, just remove the speaker. Attach Dynamat - FatMat - Roadkill or any of the others. The outer door sheet metal acts as a sound reflector and distorts the speaker because the sound waves bounce right back into the speaker. With the sound deadener there, it scatters or absorbs, mostly scatters. This changes how the speaker sounds a lot without getting a very expensive speaker.

Here is what the front camera look like with its connections. Not difficult to do.
