Hello all, I'm a new Taco owner as of yesterday! I picked up a 2010 Tacoma 4X4 V6 SR5 with 6 SPD manual and only 13,900 miles for $20k. I traded in my 2014 VW GTI that was a lot of fun, but just was not going to be reliable for me in the long term and I kept having to dump money into it. I'm sad to see it go, but it was time.

I'm looking to do some cheap, easy upgrades for the truck such as, bluetooth, headlight/foglight upgrade, weathertech floor mats, and a short shifter. I'm open to suggestions too, but not interested in lifting it or any other major upgrades. Maintenance suggestions are appreciated too.

I'll be taking it on many 4-8 hour road trips to mountain bike in the summer and ski in the winter, so driving experience, reliability and getting optimal gas mileage is my overall goal of this truck.

Anyways, i'm excited to be a truck owner and looking forward to doing a bunch of research on this site and upgrading the truck!

Within the thread above is a link to @crashnburn80 's ultimate headlight upgrade as well. Seems like you wish to 'see' instead of just look cool (halos, eyelids, LEDs, HIDs, etc) so these mods will be right up your ally.

Does it have intermittent wipers? Guessing not. Easy PnP upgrade that is quite useful if you ever go out in the rain.

A bed mat should be on your list. Keeps stuff from sliding around.

I also recommend a Scan Gauge II install. Allows you to monitor things more accurately, check/reset codes if they ever appeared, and can monitor MPG well for you.

Don't know where you live, but if heated mirrors would be of interest, you might like this thread by @Up2NoGood

And finally for now @mattgecko has some awesome under rail bed lighting that many of us find quite useful.

    Welcome

Welcome. 14k on a 2010 manual is fantastic mileage. Minor things may come up that you don't like on the Taco, but don't fret, most of them are either fixable or changeable, if you can think it, it's probably already been fixed or changed by someone else, just ask away. Suggestion on those WeatherTechs, may want to check out Aries 3D mats instead, they are pretty good quality for the price, at least $50 less than either WeatherTech or Husky.

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions Bill! That fog light thread is helpful, so much to learn!

My GTI had the turn signals that blinked 3 times with a half click, is that possible on these trucks?

Thanks man, what kind of issues am I looking at?

Do you have any idea why nothing comes up when I enter in a manual transmission for the floor mats? Automatics have an option on weathertech and aries, but not for manual.

To be honest, being I drive an auto taco, I wouldn't know exactly what some of the complaints are for the manual, but I was just stating that if there ever is a problem, it has at some point been fixed by someone else, so don't feel weird to ask if you don't like a certain vibration or a specific sound your truck makes.

I don't believe there is any major difference between the floor mats for both auto and manual trucks, specifically because the three companies I stated Husky, WeatherTech, and Aries all free form their mats to fit the floorboards almost exactly. I think they just state auto as a base since most tacomas are auto's, they should fit fine in both.

Note the fog light thread will not work on your 2010 taco as the fogs use H10s instead of H11 bulbs. I can help you with an H10 version if you PM me though. However, the headlight upgrade works on your 2010 and is highly recommended:

Thanks, I realized that after reading the whole thing and checking the other thread about headlight bulbs. I wanted to put yellow halogen fog lights in there but didnt have much luck finding a yellow halogen H10 bulb only found some LED ones and I know the negative effects of LED in reflector housings.

I read through the headlight upgrade, and seems like an easy upgrade. There is also the option of having someone retrofit the headlights for an projector HID setup, this shouldnt have as negative effect on lighting and blinding traffic because its no longer reflecting off the housing. I didnt see a lot of threads on this, but ill do some more digging today.

**Edit: A quick google search and I found a yellow Hella brand halogen fog bulb and some retrofit threads.

    Welcome to TW!

MT can have issues with weathertech liners with the clutch pedal catching and sticking! It can easily be trimmed to stop this from happening. Heres a link to a thread about it. A quick google search brought up a bunch of info for me.(I dont have a second gen or a manual)

Also did my first mod yesterday...headphone jack bluetooth adapter. Works surprisingly well for 15$.
