Most horror movies are too predictable.

Ever watch Generation Kill on HBO? Its about the Iraqi invasion in late 2001. Follows Recon Marines and is told from the point of view of a Rolling Stones reporter that was embedded with them for the initial invasion.

It's not as well known as band of Brothers, but I think it's just as good.

Think it has like 10 or 11 episodes

My grandfather was a marine and fought at bogunville, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. I never heard him talk about it, but he told my mom and uncles. Pretty horrible stuff what he went through, and he wasn't even 20 years old because he enlisted when he was 16 I believe(put down a different age). The things he saw happen, and things he did, haunted him right up till he passed away. Much to graphic to talk about with a kid. Or post on a forum.

I'd recommend seeing 2, arguably the best one. And yes they got really silly but the films still were cheap as fk to make so of course they kept going

I've watched a lot of WWII documentaries/movies. Last one I've watched was Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter. Focused on the battle between Germany and Russia.

Yet another GREAT binge watch HBO series.

I would suggest to read the books this and some of the other HBO minis came from.
    More information and good reads.

    Generation Kill by Evan Wright

Band of Brothers by Steven Ambrose

    The Pacific (actually 3 memoirs):
With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge
Helmet for my Pillow by Robert Leckie
Red Blood, Black Sand by Chuck Tatum

I bet you'd like this book, then. I read it about a year ago and very much enjoyed it:

Great. More books for me to have to buy and read. Pretty much anything by Ambrose is good. And Mark Bowden (Black Hawk Down author) has written some really good books after that one. Guests of the Ayatollah about the Iranian hostage crisis comes to mind.
