We will see how that pile of crap holds up after 5 years and 75k! Bet they will wish they had a taco, the chev will be worth $10k and the taco will be worth $25k a the best part will be that someone, even yourself will still want it.
We took a chev in on trade with less than a 1000 moles on it. The interior was cheap and build quality was shitty! I'll take my "hooligan taco" any day over the chev.
I watched a couple comparisons on you tube and thar taco crushed the chev hands down!

There are plenty of GM vehicles with 100's of thousands of miles still on the road (Fords and Dodge too for that matter). You act like it's a Yugo just because it's a Chevy.

Well, I guess I'll contribute my $0.02 even though this thread is way old.

I test drove a Z71 Colorado the same day I BOUGHT my 2017 SR5 Tacoma.

My wife loved the Colorado. As has been said many, many times in this thread, it was definitely the more comfortable (downright "cushy" of the two). The radio was nice. It had heated seats with faux leather trim. Felt like it had more room overall. The ride was plush, etc. The Z71 had a bit more gadgetry, cooler looking rims/tires, etc.

Compared to the Tacoma, it was downright plush, I have to admit. The price for the well optioned Z71 was a couple grand cheaper than the very basic SR5.

    BUT

The Taco felt much more solid. The difference in build quality was VERY clear. The overall comfort is a bit less but you could tell that it would stay the same over time and not wear out nearly as fast. There was little overall difference for me in "power" and ride.

My history of owning cars is that I normally don't keep them until they die. 10 years is the max for me. The simple math in my head flat out told me that the Taco would be the winner in the long term value argument. That in and of itself is what sold ME on the Taco. My wife remains a fan of the Colorado even though she has come around a bit and now likes driving the Taco.

Do I ever wonder "what if"? Sure. I don't regret my decision even though I've had to deal with some transmission goofiness. I wish the Taco had the towing modes and built in brake controller that the Colorado had. That would have been really nice. I drive a lot and I'm happy with the fuel mileage at this point and I'm certain it's better than what the Colorado would have done.

37 years ago? I think you may as well talk about the Japanese in WW2 if you're going to go back that far lol.

Cool. I'll keep that in mind when shopping for a car in the 1978-1979 model year.

Lots has changed in better part of four decades. To claim that Toyota is building a better truck than the big 3 due to experiences in the 1970's is crazy. It also doesn't match what is being reported by 3rd party reviewers. Not to say that Toyota sucks now, but the company isn't the same one that revolutionized the car industry in North American with their small, fuel efficient, and reliable cars in the 1970's and 1980's.

That is a very true statement. I'll add that it appears that the Japanese manufactured Toyota's seem to have less nit-picky QC issues than the Tacoma's as well.

No offense but the fit, finish, ride quality, power train and overall 'initial satisfaction' on my 2016 Silverado is much higher than my 2016 TRD OR was. Not even close. And the Silverado LTZ with a 6.2l was only $4k more than the TRDOR.

Last year I sold my 1998 Dodge 24v diesel 5spd that I had owned for over 12 years. 225,000 miles on it. I bought it for $18,000 and it had 75K on the odo. I sold it for $14,000. How's THAT for resale? It cost $4,000 not including general maintenance and repair- no major mechanical failures. Period.

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with the original 4.0 and it has 220K on the odo and still going strong.

Not sure why this perpetuated 'myth' of Toyota greatness..

My old F-250 had about 250,000 on it. It began to sit due to non-use and it went from snow white to Tow Mater in a few years. Other than the occasional starter replacement it was trouble free. Still have a rust outline in my driveway lol.

Let me pick the road course and I’ll take on the Canyon/Colorado anyday. A manual TRD Sport will smoke them in the handling department. I think some of their test driving is done by big fat old men who can’t handle a manual.

You do realize that most of this conversation is almost two years old? In fact, a pile of the members who got into the dick swinging contest that was this thread have been banned in the meantime, which kind of tells you how worth while this thread actually was lol. It’s Tacoma World, not Colorado World, so of course you’re going to find plenty of avid Tacoma fans willing to get pretty vocal about how awesome their truck is and how horrible the other options are. It’s an enthusiast site for a specific product and not a great forum for general truck conversations.
