Don't forget that the larger diameter 265 will rotate less than the smaller diameter 245, giving you slightly incorrect fuel economy readings (based on odometer). Actual gas mileage is better than you are calculating. The best way to calculate that is using a GPS to record mileage, not the odometer or trip meter.

265 isn't the diameter of the tire. It's the width. The diameter is as follows:

    2 x (Width x Aspect Ratio) + Wheel Diameter = Tire diameter

The aspect ration is a percentage.

Don't forget to convert the width to inches to get equal units. You can do this by dividing with width by 25.4 mm/in.

    For 265/70 R16 tires:

    2 x ((265mm/25.4mm/in) x .70) + 16 in = 30.6 in

In my case, the tire diameter is about the same as the aspect ratio of the wider tire is smaller than the narrow tire.

To add my 2 cents, here are my results on wheel/tire swap ...

    16" Steelie (29lb measured) + 245/75R16 Hankook Dynapro HT (33lb) = 62lb
    17" FN fx Pro(24 lb measured) + 265/65R17 Cooper Discoverer AT3 (39lb) = 63lb

Not much change, but 6lbs of the weight was redistributed farther from center ... which I was a bit worried about. But, no noticeable MPG loss for me.

Almost same exact set up running except I have the TRD OR wheels and tires at 265 70 16s.....I doubt I would notice anything either.....although I haven't done a fuel consumption comparison yet, I would bet it would be pretty close to the same...

I'm extremely happy that I didn't get the black ones. I was second guessing myself until they were installed.
