I wondered about which rear had the howling problems. Was hoping it wasn't the 8.75. I have ~3700miles on my truck.

Ok, yeah, I have the automatic with the 8 inch diff, no howl either here, have about 2800 miles on mine.

It just seems to me that most ORS are in this howl category with the 8.75 diff, keep in mind too that the OR is the leading model seller of tacoma .

I feel like I dodged a bullet buying my truck. 2017 vs 2016, Tejas built, 2.7, MT vs auto.Think I hit the lottery.

No doubt man, the MT utility is hard to find up my way, hence the automatic in mine, or as I like to call it "the gear hunter".... . And yes, mine is Texas built also.......well I sure do like this truck, it's all I will ever need and I certainly am holding onto it a while.

That "grinding" noise is crazy.. I have had it happen over steep inclines like driveways that have a sharp drop off and the truck thinks its losing control and then grinds all the gears.

Im not sure the noise your hearing is normal.. they may tell you it is but no truck or car should make that noise. its like the gears bind up and thats how its controlling the tire without traction. its not supposed to function like that.

Completely normal, there is no grinding of gears, that is Anti Lock Brake system actuators, the brakes are activating/deactivating at a rapid pace to keep your tires from locking up and hold you straight when it senses the rear end slipping. Completely normal sound.

maybe we are experiencing different things then. My noise rumbles the cab and I can feel grinding. Its loud and not everyone gets the noise I do.

It's normal. If you ever get a chance drive a offroad model up or down a steep hill using Crawl Control. It works but it is very loud.

    all tore up already
You probably heard abs engage. Sounds like a machine gun under the hood. By far the loudest ive heard and one of the more easily tripped off ive experienced. Got somewhat used to it driving in snow for 2 winters

So there's no way to do donuts in the truck without rattling it to pieces? Can't you just disable traction control...maybe abs. Sometimes I wanna slide out purposely on a turn when wet. Can we not do that?

Totally. Hold down the traction control button for like 5 seconds. You will see a few lights on the dash indicating everything is off. Auto LSD off and Trac off, I believe...

Keep weight in the back of your truck to keep the back end from breaking loose. :)
