    Hey guys,

How much should I expect to pay for a 2012 Tacoma double cab TRD OFF-Road 4x4 with ~91k miles?

2012 is the perfect year for me, not as expensive as 2015 but it also doesn't need a face lift. 2009 is the lowest I would go.

I have a budget of $25-$26k max out the door and everything appears to be $30k and over. I understand that these trucks are highly sought after, just want to know if my budget is realistic.

Also, I'm from California and recently moved to the Pacific Northwest. What do I need to look out for in terms of rust? Could a 2012 (5 yr old truck) possibly have severe rust issues?

    Thanks

Can't speak to the potential rust issues out west. But always try to talk them down from their asking price. The unfortunate part for you is that the ones selling for $30K + won't be had for $25-$26K. There's a reason these trucks hold their value so well. I'd look at 2010 and newer at this point, and be aware of the TSB's out right now. Good luck and welcome to TW.

Right. I don't expect to get a $30k truck for $26k, just curious as to what I can get for $26k because most of the trucks I come across in my search are in the $30k range even though the mileage is closer to 100,000.

It's nice to here my truck is still worth what I paid! I got my 12 2 years ago for 28 Canadian with 64K Km. They're between 24-30 up here depending on conditon and mods.

the 2012 would be the one year I personally wouldn't buy, too many horror stories of the secondary air injection pump and valves going early. Go 13-15

Crazy the prices are that high, I paid well under 30 for my 2013 V6 trd offroad back in November 2013. Had 9,000 miles on it.

I just paid $21600 for a 2012 SR5 (no trd) with 89k miles. DCSB 4x4 with a cap in good shape.

I'm happy with my 2012 OR. No issues whatsoever in past 1.5 years of ownership, and got the configuration and color I wanted. I had to be patient (2 months) but it was well worth it.

    I don't have an OR, but I bought my 2012 SR5 DCSB 4x4 w/19k miles for $27k OTD in February of 2016.

Some believe because a few members have an issue with their pumps that in turn means its a wide spread issue outside the small world of Tacomaworld.

That's exactly what I was thinking, that it had to do with the secondary air pump. :p

    Thanks for your replies.

As far as the rust, what should I be looking for in terms of rust? I'm from CA and not used to having to inspect vehicles for rust, especially when the vehicle has spent all of it's life in CA.

As far as the Tacoma's go, I currently have 3 on my sights. Both TRD OFF-ROAD 4X4, auto trans. Both in state.

    1. 2012 Silver(the color I want) has off-road tires and wheels that I like, no lift. 90K miles. Basic seats, basic stereo. $25k dealer

    2. 2014 Grey, has chrome rims, to be swapped out immediately if I buy lol, no lift. 45k miles. Leather seats, GPS. $27.5K private party :( (higher interest rate)

    3. 2012 Grey, off road tires and wheels, lift. 64k miles. Basic seats, basic stereo. $26k private party (higher interest rate)

Things I don't need, fancy electronics that aren't mechanical such as: stereos, GPS systems as well as things like leather seats and camper shells, chromed rims.

The 2012 one better price and you will get a better interest rate which saves a bundle in the long run, tell the dealer as part of the deal you want a brand new updated air pump installed free of charge, you will be surprised what they will do too sell the truck.

That ^ and you're not spending money on wheels and tires right out of the gate.

Glad Im reading this. Sounds like $25k is a decent deal for a 2012 Off Road with 34k miles. Just got it about a month ago. Good luck.
