Looks like $115 from autozone for a duralast complete cruise switch assembly. Lifetime warranty. That's just a quick Google search. I know I'd spend that much to have cruise if mine were broke.

My cc on 08 taco didn't work when I got mine also. Problem was the stalk on the column. The contacts inside had some how bent up. I just bent them back and it has been good for over a year now. I am guessing the previous owner used it alot and jammed it up some how. Just unscrew the cover on the stalk and you can check it pretty easy.

A couple of years ago when I was first diagnosing my cruise control problem, I bought a Chinese knockoff on eBay for about $40-60. It did not fix the problem. A clock spring replacement fixed it last year and the Chinese knock off has been functioning properly.

This brings up a point. The Computer may not engage the cruise if it sees an error in the car. i.e. Cab top brake light out. Brake light out, brake light switch/position/adjustment, door ajar/switch mis adjusted/ intermittent, etc. I'd spend a few minutes and completely check the truck out - esp brake lights/switch and anything else you can think up that's related to safety .....

(my old GMC Dealer had a truck that would not do cruise. After replacing everything they could they call the factory and they were told to check this - turned out "one" of the multiple lights on the top cab rear brake light was out and the computer sensed the lower amp draw and prevented the cruise from engaging do to a safety issue detected.)

    Latest update:

Dealer said the factory recall clockspring replacement had been done back in 2013 on my tacoma. The dealer said that my truck's cruise control issue is the following:

Cruise control switch replacement, parts and labor- $235
Clock spring replacement, parts and labor- $360

They said it could be one of those two parts or both.

I have sourced the clockspring for anywhere between $20 and $100.

I have found the cruise control switch for $85 on Amazon, factory oem.

Thanks, I will check this out.

Thanks for bringing this up I got my truck back from the valve cover gasket replacement and I will check for this.

    On the recommendations it says:

Park Lamp: 2 front marker bulbs. I don't think there's parking lights in the front, confusing way to word that.

This may possibly be what you're talking about.

I meant that all lights for the 3rd brake light must be working.

You can go to the Toyota website and check what recalls (i.e. clock spring) has been performed on your Truck. Just to be sure.

IF the Clock spring is considered to be bad - I'd contact Toyota and say the recall was not done properly and they should fix /check the issue on their dime. Then If the Cruise is still not working I'd swap out the cruse control stick myself.

Talking about the light at the top rear, outside of the cab correct?

    OK guys,

So I checked the 3rd brake light like Canufixit mentioned and while I did have 2 dead light bulbs, I replaced them and my cruise control still doesn't work so cross that off the list.

When I took my truck in to the mechanic he also mentioned something about fuses. I searched online and it appears that there is no direct cruise control fuse and if there was a blown fuse I would be having other electrical problems besides the cruise control. All other electronics are in working order. Only issue on my truck is the cruise control. I am starting to think the issue is in the switch and not the clock spring.

On a side note, to double check, anyone know which fuses affect the cruise control? I would like to check again, maybe I missed one.
