2016 TRD OR. I have had an issue for some time regarding the rear diff lock engaging/disengaging only to be followed by the locker switch flashing and error(fast flashing). The only way to get rid of light was to turn truck off. The conditions and environment would Very but the likely hood of getting an error was much greater then working as designed.

Go back a year in time when I first brought it to the attention of the dealer and they finally replaced the switch mechanism at the diff so I was told. I was told on multiple occasions to follow the operating procedures on the locker and not to turn it on the highway. I may have got upset at some point for them insulting my ability to read placards and manuals (I am a certified flight instructor and commercial pilot with 3 type ratings) So they finally watched my videos and came to conclusion I was not abusing the truck.

It seemed to remedy the issue for a bit but the gremlin came back and left me with little confidence of the locker working when I needed it the most. I exercised the locker and transfer case regularly to keep things lubed and happy. But the issue persisted.

So last Friday I presented my case once again, again with more videos and the tech verifying the issue. On Tues, I found out Toyota was replacing the rear diff and is tracking this issue apparently because others have had similar issues.

Anyone else hear dealing with this?

I love when people throw out the credentials as if it matters.

I worked IT years ago and I there was a reason I asked PhD's if they checked if it was unplugged or if they tried hitting the power button. They still forgot to plug shit in or try turning it on...

The rear locker on mine is definitely fidgety, but it works great once you get the light to quit blinking. It usually requires putting truck in and out of gear a couple of times and cussing at it. I've become accustomed to engaging if i MIGHT need it rather than waiting until I REALLY need it.

the light the truck was throwing was the "something's not right light". The locker indicator light has 2 flash modes. When it blinks ludacris speed, you got a problem.

If your pilot doesn't know how to deploy the landing gear you have a bigger problem. Now, does the IT guy not verify it's plugged in or does he call IT? But I get where your coming from

I had a warning lite showing (2WD-4WD mode Change Failure ) that will show at random, and took the dealer a couple of month to fix it.

We had a USAF C-17 crash in Bagram Afghanistan because they didn't deploy the landing gear. Did they not read their manuals and placards/checklist?

Point is, they deal with so many people who don't read these things and just because you have an MD, PhD, JD, Pilot License or whatever doesn't exempt you from the list of people who don't follow instructions. So don't get insulted by it, take it with a grain of salt and look at it from their perspective. They don't know you and a lot of issues are user created/resolved.

Not once in my 21 year aviation career have I ever "deployed" landing gear simply because I would prefer the gear to remain with the aircraft.

Don't have a rear locker, don't hear any weird diff noises, don't see the need for locker for regular off roads I use. Trac, and atrac do a great job on these trucks imo but for the most extreme circumstances where I would avoid going into anyway locker or not unless, I had a lift and some big ass tires.

After having to have my front transfer case actuator replaced a couple months back, a couple weeks ago, I got to thinking maybe I should try locking my rearend to see if it worked. I just got the blinking light too. Even referring to the manual and putting the truck in and out of gear and sweet talking it I had no luck. Maybe I shoulda cussed it instead. I've got my 15k service in about 600 miles and was going to bring the issue up then.

I don't have the rearend howl, but issues with the transfer case actuator, then needle bearing vibes and replacement, and a rearend that won't lock on a new unmodded truck that isn't flogged on...I am not feeling that warm and fuzzy feeling for my OR's 4x4 system.

I had the rear diff whine and locker difficulties until I went with larger tires. No more whine and rear locker locks and unlocks when I tell it to without problems.

That makes a justification for me to do a lift and 35s!

It's cool. That's additional justification, simply thinking the stock size needs a regear. Haha
