Pretty sure I have the exact same problem. Just bought a 2016 tacoma used, 9k miles, test drove it and no problems at all...2 days after buying it I go to spray the windshield and the spray I get is like someone who spits when they talk.....I thought maybe partially frozen fluid, because idk if its that -20 degree stuff, so I keep spraying hoping to melt any ice in the line. All I get is a pool of blue washer fluid that runs across my hood, and more vague mist on my windshield.

I open my 100 lb hood, and hit the spray again, sprays perfect (except now spraying downward because the angle of the hood changed) I realize the spray nozzels arent extended far enough and are hitting the plastic behind the hood that has the notches it SHOULD be spraying through. Making an appointment for them to fix this crap.

Alright so I'm at the dealer for the 6th time broes trying to get his solved. They will be installing the cowl today. Service advisor said he's 99% positive it will need a new hood. I checked out some of the new trucks at the dealer, and they is about a 1/2 larger gap. For some reason my hood dips down near the windshield about 1/8" lower than the fenders.

Look like it be sport hood time mates :bananadance:

They are also going to fix the squeaky dash at the a-pillar, and try to recalibrate my traction control because of the lift.

New hood fixed mine. Rumor is my truck was Toyota's test mule to see if it would fix it and it has.

Yeah, I think they know they have to replace the hood, but are beating around the bush. They blamed my wash fluid, and I told them I have never put fluid in it cause I haven't been able to use it, service rep didn't really have a response.

Update: the cowl they installed didn't work, and then the dealer told me to open a claim with Toyota Care. So I did, I'm expecting a call sometime today. Dealer said they want my truck for a week, yet don't want to give me a loaner car.

Looking at other trucks on the lot, my hood sits 1/16" lower than my fenders, while other truck sit even with the fenders.

This whole thing is getting kind of silly. I don't want a new hood, maybe I'll see if Toyota will settle for some oil changes or something, and I'll fix it.

No it shoots just fine. Only straight into the hood, lol! The dealer is baffled by it, there were like 6 techs messing with it, and they even brought over a new truck to compare, my hood is sitting about 1/8" lower than the others, but it still doesn't make sense why it won't work.

Toyota Expierence just told me to schedule another appointment for further diagnosis. And said she would follow along with the outcome.

Am I in the wrong to ask for a loaner if they are going to have it for more than a day or two.

I've been pretty understanding through all this, I haven't broed out on anyone. They're starting to make me feel like I'm just whining :angrygirl:

This issue is silly, but you try getting muddy road spray on you from the car in front of you while you're doing 60, and have no way to clear your windshield.

its mounted under the hood right by the end of it...
unless you're saying its basically vertical and sprays the bottom?

You should look into if it is an inspection item. In nh you have to have good glass and wipers, not sure if washer has to work but its how everyone tests wipers. If you can verify it is an inspection item it may be time to get tough with service manager and explain they inspected a vehicle that did not pass and mention dot/dmv or whoever certifies inspection stations.
Well this took longer than expected to get weird

Well update time. Picked up the truck again today, still not fixed. 7th dealer trip. Little frustrating, but there could be much worse than this issue.

They found that the plastic cowl piece keeps snapping the plastic tabs, and when it does it pops up and interferes with the spray nozzles. The cowl only snaps in, no screws. We walked around the dealer and none of them have the same tight clearance as mine, but I'm betting this will be an issue on other trucks in the future if these clips break.

They said Toyota has only had 5 other documented cases. I'm on my third cowl, and they want to schedule me to bring it in again to try the 3 different nozzle options one last time.

Has anybody settled on an a warranty issue. I'm kind of at the point where I just want to cancel it, and fix it myself.

Mine was settled/fixed. They out a new hood on it. Story I got was mine was a year mule for the new hood to fix it. I've had no issues since. Unfortunately the dealer wrecked my truck while it was there. I ended up with a new hood, bumper, fender, fender flair.

But they made it right so it is what it is. I had a ding in my back bumper so they replaced it on their dime for wrecking it.

Anyway my advisor tells me they had a batch of warped hoods. I was lucky enough to get one.

Good luck with yours. It's such a minor issue but it's an annoyance

I had this issue. Turns out that the anti-drain back part that also acts as the splitter for the two hoses went bad. Got a new one from O'Reily and they sprayed perfect after that. Screenshot 2023-12-15 at 10.40.52 AM.png
