I found a nasty surprise under the driver' side carpet last week when I did the intermittent wiper and cruise control.

    That is salt!

Looks like the previous owner got into the truck in the winter with salt laden snowy boots.

Cleaned it all up, no sign of any rust or holes.

If you live in snowy climates, you may want to take a peek at your floor under the carpet.

Hopefully the WeatherTech mats I have will prevent this from happening again.

Great catch. Will save you a headache down the road if you keep it long enough. I would carefully inspect the entire thing now lol

How hard was it to install cruise control? Did you have to run additional wires?

He has auto so less parts, less money, less work since no clutch switch involved.......steering wheel cover with hole for stalk, stalk, piece of wire & done. I have 5 spd and luckily the cl sw wiring was in place.

Early Tacomas just needed the switch and harness for behind the airbag, later Tacomas needed a little more.

Cruise is a bit fiddly - if you have old person vision (my cataracts get fixed next month YA!) and fat fingers like I do, it will take some time.

Switch mounts behind airbag, one harness there, two wires in steering column, one goes to ground, other goes to the ECU additional wire from ECU to instrument panel.

Manual trans requires a clutch switch, kit comes with two "brown" wires - one works the other won't. Use the brown wire with the pins that match the ground and "green" wires.

I did this not that long ago as I thought I had a gallon of water spill in my truck but it turned out I seem to have a leak. I finally got it dried after the weather warmed up a bit, but I noticed the wetness was back the other day after it was raining for a few days. I am going to check that seam where I've heard of leaks happening but it's not a good feeling. The insulation/mat under the carpet is basically ruined. Upon first inspection it seemed it was coming from the rubber grommet directly below the brake pedal, but I couldn't find that same grommet on the underside of the vehicle - might be under the exhaust heat shield. Thinking of taking it in to the shop before I tear it apart and try to fix it myself as I have an extended warranty. Thoughts?
