Limited should have the factory alarm AFAIK. Glass breakage sensor is an add-on though.

On my OR I tried the following a while ago: Window down, then I locked doors and waited until the light started flashing to show the alarm had armed. I forget whether the alarm went off (horn honking) when I reached in and unlocked the door or when I actually opened the door. Either way, it made plenty of noise.

Easy for anyone curious to test their own truck. Key is to wait the 30 seconds or so until the system arms (light starts flashing).

Since yours made no noise, I believe it either it was defective or you maybe didn't lock the doors. Factory alarm doesn't auto-arm. I don't know if that's a changeable setting like it was on my old 4Runner. Hasn't been an issue for me, and if I'm ever unsure I just send a lock command via SmartStart.

Doors were definitely locked, they wouldn't have had to break the window if they weren't. Idk what the deal was. My new alarm has a Viper 2-way pager so if the alarm goes off the pager starts beeping

As easy as it is to break a window, and as often as I've heard of broken windows on unlocked vehicles, I wouldn't necessarily assume a broken window means it was locked. :D

Regardless, sorry it happened. Had a window busted and stuff stolen from my 4runner years ago. Really sucks.

I'll have to try this. This morning while I was in my truck with the engine off I locked all my doors. Then I waited about 10 seconds and opened the door, and nothing happened. I am assuming I didn't wait long enough. I am going to go out at lunch and roll down my window, lock it up via the FOB, and then wait 30 seconds and reach in and opens the door. I'll report back with what happens. BTW I have a 2016 TRD OR AC.

Following up. Just had a chance to test it again.

Opened the driver's window and locked the truck. Walked away and waited for the security light to start flashing, 30 seconds or so.

I reached in the window and hit the manual unlock on the door.

The truck immediately started blaring the horn and flashing the lights.

Factory alarm seems to be doing its job.

BTW, since I have a remote start and DEI SmartStart module installed, it alerted me of the facotry alarm going off. Cool. (D2D references the data interface)

If you have the factory alarm i am assuming all you would have to add is the glass breaking sensor am I correct?
Can you just add this sensor to a 2017limited.

I believe so, and I believe so. GBS sensor occupies one of the empty switch locations left of the steering wheel I believe.

That said I have no idea how good it is or isn't.

RS3200 info for 2016 Taco. This is the entire kit PT398-35160 which includes GBS sensor.

The GBS sensor is adjustable, see p. 10. The GBS microphone is inserted into the dash panel to left of steering wheel, see p. 14. No telling if the GBS ECU and mic can be ordered separately.

Techstream is used to turn the system from 'off' to 'on', see p. 19

Good find. I searched briefly, but didn't run across it.

Looking at the linked PDF and the kit contents, this seems to be just the GBS ECU and associated bits and pieces. i.e. it's the Glass Breakage Sensor add on to the factory alarm.

BTW, the TRDs (presumable all the PTS Tacos) already have the hood switch installed. Pop the hood and see if it tells you about it in the instrument cluster. :)

$99 isn't bad... I hadn't thought I needed this, but for $99 it might just be worth it... https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-PT398-35160-Intrusion-Protection-Security/dp/B014JF36QQ

Ignorance. Fancy truck, double din, should be awesome in my clapped out Corolla. All Toyota parts interchange, right?

i ended up[ ordering the one for 99 bucks. It was the lowest price anywhere. this is the correct one to order of you have a factory alarm. i just don't know why toyota gives you an alarm but leaves out the glass breakage sensor.

I also just tested if my pro had a factory alarm, and it does :bananadance:. Didn't know it came with one. Another awesome reason for joining this forum. I've learned so much so far. Now i just need to add that glass breakage sensor you'all talking about.

Did you take it to the dealership or did you have it done before you picked up the truck?

For $150 I might just take it to them

I just tried my Tacoma it’s an 2007 trd sport and the alarm didn’t do crap. Just the blinking light, locked the doors with unrolled window reached in and didn’t do anything. Also sat inside and locked doors and didn’t do anything either. What gives? Is my truck able to add glass breakage kit too?

New door speakers and an all in 1 10in. Sub, bed cover, bed stiffeners, new grill, tailgate inlays, Mat black emblems overlays, new led map and dome lights, plenty more in the plans.
I did this too with my 2018 Trd sport and I got nothing aswell. A buddy of mine asked if I had my keys on me when I did this and I did. I tried it again but I took the keys into the house and away from my truck. Upon opening the door the alarm went off. I’m not sure if this would make a difference for you but it might help.

I don't believe you can use this on MTs.
