Black rim guys....rim trail damage?

    Getting ready to buy my 3rd gen. As I want to trade in the factory Goodyears for a decent credit, I don't want to put more than a few miles on them.

    As I want to go with 265/75R-16 Cooper ST Maxx, I need a wider than factory rim I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong...if so I can run factory 7's for a while until I decide on rim). Aside from that, I just don't like the look of the factory rims on the 3rd's. I've run the factory rims on my 2002 for 15 years, and they never bothered me. The new ones do.

    So, my rim of preference is the FN FX Pro wheels. But I'm concerned with trail damage jacking up the black rims, especially at the lip / bead area. I do a lot of wheeling in rocks, rock filled mud, etc. Think Northern AZ in typically crappy weather and roads type stuff.

    I just haven't seen this addressed here. Is this even an issue? I know I've taken more than a few hits on the edges of my rims before. Because of this, I'm wondering if a decent touch up paint will suffice, or will any damage just continue to migrate, flake off, and be screwed and basically look like shit...or if I just need to go with a black rim with brushed aluminum faux beadlock like the Fuel Anza, my 2nd choice, but a damn fine looking rim I think. Prefer all black on the quicksand tacoma I'll be going with, but....

    I have also been known to need to (on at least one occasion) do a field tire swap on a rim while in the boonies (3 blown POS Duratracs on one elk hunt...don't ask, waste of rubber that tire is) and had to pop one of those piece of crap tires off the rim to throw a patch on the inside to get me back to civilization. That'd surely fuck up an all black rim all to hell.

    I'll be running the Cooper ST Maxx 265/75R-16's, no lift rear (at least initially), with King's and 700lb coils in front w/ about 1" lift at the front. Hoping to get all that put in and swapped out within a couple weeks of driving off the lot.

    Know the all black rims are the rage. I get it, they look great...especially on something like a quicksand taco. And I want. But are they a wise choice for a truck that gets used / somewhat abused?

    If you want to off-road and keep good looking wheels you could look into getting faux beadlocks with replaceable rings, when one gets scratched up too bad, just replace it. I prefer "used" looking wheels since they make the truck look like it's actually used as a truck and not the same things as a Prius.

    Agree with the other guy. Fake beadlock and replace ring as it gets damaged

    I though "fake" beadlocks are not replaceable since the name "fake"?? o_O

    I have Fuel wheels with beadlocks that are replaceable @ $20/ring. Wasn't any more expensive than the "fake" ones from other companies.

    Some people may not want to deal with the issues that can come with true beadlocks and their associated maintenance requirements.
