Local dealership is closing in two months and will have a huge sale just prior, so thinking about getting the 2017 FZ-09 instead of the KTM (first). I already have a dirt bike and I need a lot more practice in the dirt before I get something way bigger so it makes sense to get the FZ now, especially because I've been itching to get a faster street bike lately. I have a lot of fun on my Ninja and the past two years has taught me a lot about riding but I think it's finally hit that time where I need something a bit bigger, even if I could still have fun on the 300.

If I sold the Ninja for close to $3K (what I bought it for and what I still think I could get for it), and I get the FZ on a sale, I think I would be out of pocket about $6K out the door. Pretty reasonable and do-able with my current financial situation, especially if I get one of the jobs I'm in the process for now.

Plus the new FZ headlights look so good!!! Would definitely get a fender eliminator, frame sliders, smaller mirrors, and probably look for some flushmount turn signals though.

The idea of the grom is that its a chameleon. Just about anyone can get on one and ride it to their full potential; they'll have a blast in the process. Plus, no one takes them seriously because they are so small. Everyone just dismisses them when you do dumb shit on them.

If you seriously want a street and trail, buy a wr250f and never look back. The KTM EXC350 is an absolutely amazing machine, but it isn't worth $12000 (OTD) for something you'll tear up.

...my ninja is the same exact thing...

And the KTM is $10K, I'll get it later but think I'm getting the FZ now

If the price tag doesn't scare you the cost of ownership will.

Obviously you'll take the FZ seriously and not think you're Valentino Rossi on the first day right?

cost of ownership of FZ ? granted I was paying $1300 a year for insurance for the first 2 years. But that was due to tickets I had on previous bikes.

If he and Brent think i'm silly for changing my oil as often as I do, wait until he sees the owner's manual for a KTM dirt bike

350 doesn't have some crazy maintenance intervals, it's a dual sport not a two stroke race bike

There's a difference there. One is done by following the manual, the other is because the owner is anal-retentive :p

Every 4,000 miles per the manual. But, I did it once at 500 miles, once at 1,000 miles, and now I do it every 4,000 miles. I'll be doing my fourth oil change next weekend and I've had the bike for 7 months.
