I want to color match my grill eventually once I get brave enough to try my hand at it. But as a temporary fix I was thinking of plasti dipping my chrome surround and rear bumper black but haven't seen too many 12-15 MGMs with the black surround. Has anyone out there done this and if so could you post some pics of the results? Thanks in advance!

How much of a bitch was it to wrap (and where did you get the wrap), that looks awesome.

I had my dipped for a while, just recently took it off due to fade.

it was about a 7 out 10 on a cake to lots of expletives scale. definitely remove the grill to do it. vinyl wrap came from Amazon. about 30 bucks for a 5 by 5 sheet. a heat gun is necessary for sure. and a buddy helping to hold places and apply the heat as you push the wrap onto the grill would make this probably an easy job. I did it on my own and it took about two to three hours. I'm pretty happy with it and it makes it look pretty custom.

It honestly looks pretty close to the MGM imo. Is that just a carbon fiber pattern?

Order a new grille and paint that.

Unless you have extreme patience, painting a chrome grille is likely not going to work out. Unless you are meticulous about prep work, it will peel. I imagine it's worth the cost of getting a primed grille from Toyota to paint.

The carbon wrap is bad ass.

Do you have any other pics from different angles? I'm curious how well it does match with the MGM.

And that's probably what I'll do if a wrap or I decide not to plasti dip it.

Did mine last weekend. It's about 4 or 5 coats. I probably could've applied it thicker, but I was trying to keep it from dripping. We'll see how long it holds up.

Not sure, only time will tell I guess, it's a little shiner if that matters much.

Going to Plasti-coat factory grille and all chrome badging/bumper ends. Would love to hear from others who have done grille this way, whether you removed the grille to plasti-coat, or if you left grille in and taped off? Also, how much time to allow between coats? Thanks! e in Arizona

That looks awesome. Had my hood carbon vinyl wrapped.

My grill is plastidipped. I only use the high pressure DIY car washes and have had no dip come off in nearly 2 years.

I don't think you can order a primed grill. When I replaced mine I just ordered a color-matched sport grill.

Did mine on the truck. Just taped everything around it well. Survived car washes, -26F weather, and nearly two years.

Probably needs redone soon simply because it is beat up.

I taped my off and kept grill on. That is the hardest part honestly, lol.

Shake the can well. Apply a light coat initially, light enough that the chrome still shows through. Let dry , then apply another light coat. Repeat another 2-3 times and you are done. Its very easy if you apply the coats light. One tip I will share is, do it on a still day, no wind.

I removed the whole thing from the truck and took apart the surround and the insert, so no taping involved. It's easy to do, just a pain in the ass with all the clips and screws, particularly getting the insert out of the surround. Getting it on and off the truck is the easy part.
