I completely agree. You have to have real expectations when you're getting into them. It's more capable than I thought it would be and a much better daily driver.

I like my 2.7. Yep, it's gutless but I can't think of another DD that can actually excel off-road that is this maintenance free. My 2004 Regular Cab with the 2.7 and 5 speed manual will go far more places than I am willing to "thrash it" to go and it is completely stock with the exception of OME suspension with Deaver J59 springs in the rear. What I mean is that with open diffs there are rock climbs I know I can do and various other obstacles that I know I can crawl through, drive through or climb but I don't do it because I don't want to bounce it and rev the shit out of it which could compromise my DD use. I did that a few times when I first got it just to see what it could do. I've actually been on ATV trails with it more than once. Where I do take it still amazes me.

Yup, I'm good with my 4cyl. Disappointed with 20 mpg, especially knowing people with v-8 hemi's getting much better than that with 350 hp. But I'd rather walk than have a "Ram":D, and an honest 20 mpg with no crazy computer driven electronic "stunt's" shutting down cyls. and the other gimmicks that are all bound to cost you reliability... I'm good with my 4cyl.

Personally since I have the 6 I don't think I could ever go to he 4. If I had started with the 4 I may not care as much but the thought of the v6 would always be there

My first truck was an 84 with the 300 straight 6. Locked up 3 times and it didn't burn a drop of oil. Tough motor.

In 6 1/2 yrs, I've changed a few indicator bulbs and a tensioner belt. (Aside from normal maintenance ) The 4 cyl is great.

However, I put 31" Duratracs on it and it's got no real power. Low end torque is great. It's surprises every one on the trails.

My next truck would definitely be a V6 and a double cab.

A little of this and a little of that.
I bought a '13 Regular cab 2.7L auto 4WD a few weeks ago. It's got decent "off the line" torque, but seems to take a while getting up to highway speed. Tires are 245/70/16.
    I also own a '11 DCSB 6-speed 4WD with the 4.0L V6, bought it new.
It's apples to oranges comparing both trucks. They each get the job done, get you from point A to B.

    Now, my wife has a '05 4Runner with the 4.7L V8...

I got a 2018 2.7 4 cylinder. I love it and do not regret buying it over a v6. I drove the v6 as well and for me I just prefer the 4 cylinder, I don’t haul anything and I get 26.8 miles to the gallon so I am happy as the day I got it .

I added a Tepui Kukanum and still love my Pyrite Mica 2.4AT Access. With add-ons and Snug Top, can get ~20-22 mpg on some freeway stretches. On a side note, bagged a pheasant last April, took out grill and ac condenser. Replaced with billet grille but picked up a rotational sounding whine. After several dealer trips, found out myself it was wind noise from grill. Fixed it with sheet of perforated aluminum. Live and learn!

I had a 6 cyl for 18 years with my last truck and did enjoy it, but my 2.7l is so easy to work on and requires so little maintenance that it would be my choice.

I have no regrets about getting my 2.7l. The 2nd gen V6 manual transmission isn't very good. I talked to a guy who test drove one and decided to buy an automatic (so sad). It has ample power if driven correctly. I've gone up a mountain pass at 60 mph in 3rd gear, 4500 rpm. Use the correct gear.

My first car was an AMC Gremlin, 4.2L straight six. Drove it 105k miles without any issues of any kind.
My second car was a 1965 Ford Mustang, 3.3L straight six. Drove it 120k miles, no problems.
My third car was a 1967 Ford Mustang, 3.3l straight six... same story.
    I love my Tacoma 4-cylinder.
    About the Corvette... LOL :D

    Would that be the M3?

I had a 2006 V8 Sequoia Limited before this, yea it was fast but that v8 started having lots of problems as it got up there in miles

Also had to cringe every week filling up that giant tank

I haven't had a single issue yet with the 4cyl and get sweet milage even with my heavy tires

    I'm a fan:cheers:

I had a ‘15 trd or and a ‘13 single cab 4x4 at the same time. Guess which ones gone now. It was mostly due to the boredom of an automatic for me tho

Yep gave it to my wife, after a few months the lack of a seat adjustment took its toll on her. Traded her in for a rav4. Ended up getting 28.5 for it when i paid 33,281 for it 2 years before.

Isn't the AMC 4.2 the predecessor to arguably the world's best engine (definitely the best mopar/chrysler/fiat/whatever), 4.0 i6 used in the Jeeps?

I don't think the 2.7 is too too bad for my needs, but with the auto, and coming from a 4.7 V8...Let's just say it's taking some getting used to. I think an extra 25 hp, 25 lb-ft would do the truck well.
