    Hello all,
I just found this forum. I have been a Toyota 4X4 fan since 1984 when I purchased a Land Cruiser....loved that vehicle! Since then between my wife and I have had 1 other Land Cruiser, 3, 4 Runners, and now my 2010 Takoma 4X4 extended cab and extended bed.

My Tacoma has 125K miles on it and I had to recently do my first major repair, as the front left wheel bearing started to make a bit of noise, only when on the rack, not yet hearing it when driving. Further inspection verified the problem, yet the other side looks and sounds fine. After reading on this forum, this is a 'normal' wear and maintain on Tacoma's...I felt a bit better, as none of my prior Toyotas ever had a bearing go bad....

I am not a mechanic, but over the years, especially when I was younger, I learned to do most repairs other than rebuilding a motor or transmission. My youngest is very mechanical and can do most things, so I kind of have a built in mechanic. Although he is all grown up with his own family, he is about 3 hours away, I can still get him if I have a project.

I retired recently and now have time to fool around more than before. I am blessed as my health is good, so I am enjoying this part of my life.

That's about all....hope to learn more from you guys/gals as we go forward.

I had my wheel bearings replaced in my Ranger a year before it fell apart. I replaced both sides. It is indeed more of a wear and tear issue rather than a major repair.

Whoever ended up with my Ranger (I traded it in) has new bearings but will need:

    1. New heater core
    2. New radiator
    3. water pump replacement
    4. New head gaskets
    5. New oil pan gasket

And that's just what my mechanic could tell without taking the engine apart.

Not too long ago I found the Ranger on one of those crappy shady lots near me and the only thing they did was put newer tires on the truck. The sticker price was $4,900 LOL!
