Hi everyone. I was wondering what brand/company I should be looking at for a 3in lift? I have read a few fomments from people in the group, but would like to get more input on the subject. Furthermore, I was wondering if it was possible to run 33in tires once I get the truck lifted 3inches without any rubbing in the wheel wells.

    Will 33's rub after lifted?

    Short answer = YES

Rubbing: You probably won't rub on the street but you will rub offroad. And it's not just the plastic from the fender well, it's the cab mount.

I thought Rough Country had a lot of problems with their kit? Correct me if Im wrong. Trying to educate myself on lifts, I have read that the Rough Country kit was better suited for street use and not really a great off-roading lift kit.

I currently ride on 16in rims. Should I switch to 15in rims? What is the ideal 33in tire dimensions?

Nobody is gonna give you a straight answer, do your own research and draw your own conclusions. Read a couple build threads, use the search bar

25k miles on 285s and a Toytec Boss kit here. I do moderate offroading(not rock crawling/bashing) and haven't had any issues w/ rubbing. Could it happen? Sure. Has it? No.

I really suggest you private message marie over at @HeadStrong Off-Road she can answer pretty much any and all of your questions. My set up is as follows: Front: Bilstein 5100's set at 0, with old man emu 887 springs (the taller of the springs they make for tacomas, will provide a true three inches of lift), stock upper control arms (yes this is possible, currently rebuilding a set of camburg ucas). Rear: Purchased a basically brand new oem leaf pack from a fellow TW and installed a 1.5 inch AAL, with bilstein 5100's (standard length).

Like I said marie is super helpful and is basically the only reason I haven't regretted spending my hard earned money on my truck.

And to answer your tire question, your more than likely going to have to do what they call a cab mount chop (cmc) for labor and parts it shouldn't run you over 200 bucks, any major off road shop that offer fabrication work should be able to do this. With this cmc you should be able to run up to 285 or 295 size tires which is a bit bigger than 33's.
