2012 trd sport dcsb, 54k miles, supercharged at 30k miles.

So recently it's been colder than usual and really rainy, and the last couple of days when I cold start the truck I get this squealing noise for probably 5 minutes or so. I have gotten the squealing before during the winter when it was really cold, but it would go away after 10-30 seconds.

I am wondering if anyone else has had issues with this and if it is time to replace the serpentine belt or supercharger belt.

Any comments and thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Belt. If you have more than one belt, spray one with some belt dressing and see if the sound goes away. If it doesn't try the other belt.

X2. Could be power steering, but most likely a belt.

Belt dressing is a curse. I wouldn't do it.

More than likely it is a belt. Remove the supercharger belt to isolate which one.

Yup Go with Jimmyh . Change the belt. If still issues....

    - Check the Idler arm tension/pivot motion/bearing.
    - Since it was worse in the Winter - How old is the battery?? Extra battery charging after starting may cause an oldbelt to slip ...
    - When you get the Belt off - be sure to also check/spin the water pump, Generator, PSteering, etc. just to be sure the bearings seem OK.

Lots of Luck TOO. Hopefully the Just the belt.

Thanks. I just replaced the battery a little over a year ago. I have my fingers crossed it's just an old belt! I'll check out those other things too

any update on this? This morning i had a little squealing (also cold start, but not cold out), couldnt tell if it was belt or pulley. Just started at lunch and it wasnt there. I always like to find these things before they become a real issue.

rev it up and if it goes away its prob your belt. I too advise against using belt dressing, typically if its a belt squealing problem it prob needs replaced.

Update: Went to big o tire and had both the supercharger belt and the serpentine belt changed ($140 total). All noises are now gone. Both belts were pretty worn (SC belt had about 20,500 miles on it, serpentine had 55,000 miles).

Is changing belts something a DIY person could do?

Probably. I looked it up on the forums once (for the SC belt) and it looked pretty complicated and time consuming. So I bought the belt from Toyota and took it to big O and they charged me 30 minutes of labor to do it ($40). The serpentine was $100, that included the belt and install labor. So for $40 bucks I think it's worth having someone else do it in a shop.

Serpentine belt isn't hard to change yourself. I paid $18 for the belt and did it myself, took 15 minutes. There is a diy sticky on the forum

Because all you are doing is putting a band-aid on the problem instead of solving the problem.

Belt dressing was fine when it was used on V Type Belts as that is what it is designed for. It is messy and for a serpentine belt it is basically useless with short lived results if any.
