I have been in touch recently with CVJReman about a possible TW Group buy on CV axles. I know that I have personally been through a couple of sets (OEM originally and then non-OEM replacements) and I am sure that many of you have as well (especially the lifted/offroad crowd).

Here is the benefit of going this route vs an auto parts store replacement. These are original manufacturer axles that have been completely remanufactured using some aftermarket parts and neoprene boots. You get OEM steel and design where it counts at a much better price than new, with CVJ reliability. Please note that there is no warranty provided to those with lifted applications.

What we would be looking at is approximately $150/axle shipped + a core deposit of $95/axle which would be refunded after you return your stock (OEM) axles to them to be remanufactured.

You also have a couple additional options to choose from:

    • Option 1 - Outer Boot - OEM boot for CV joint (wheel side) - $60.00 each additional. This boot gets your axles closest to OEM - longest lasting CV boot. This is an Original OEM Toyota plastic boot & clamps installed on the above built axle. This boot is the longest lasting because it is made of Hytrel plastic which is tougher, more abrasion resistant and more chemical resistant than the aftermarket Neoprene boots. Being hard plastic it does not seal as well as Neoprene, which can be an issue at high angles. (Usually good up to 2 1/2" lift)
There is no warranty on these boots.
    • Option 2- Inner Boot Higher Angle (diff side) - $47.95 each additional. These boots are for the Inner joints and are installed on axles built for you. (It takes two days)
Many offroaders prefer these for higher angles saying they last longer.
Each lift kit is different. These can help if your inner boots are rubbing on themselves or have longer travel. With the red boot there are a lot more convolutions (ribs) so they can be stretched out so they don't rub or don't rub as much. Also the silicone handles abrasion better than neoprene. These won't be much help with severe angles. {We have heard of a couple reports of suspension combinations that do not provide adequate clearance for this boot}. As a rule of thumb you will need an extra inch of clearance from the existing boot (radially & along the shaft). Please check the clearance before ordering. There is no warranty on these boots.

While these boots will help with most lifts, they are not silver bullets and cannot be expected to last as long as a stock truck.
In closing... Yes, they are a more expensive option, but you are getting an OEM replacement part for maximum strength as well as durability. You would also have the option of some upgrades which could prove to be money for some of the longer travel guys and those who offroad frequently.

I think I would need at least 10 people to give this a good shot. Please indicate your interest, concerns, etc to help bump this.

    Thanks!

Atta boy, do some tagging! Group buys run rampant around here anymore so it's easy for stuff to get lost in the weeds.

I have CVJ axles with silicone boots and boot slide mod (done by CVJ) on my first gen Tacoma. I've been very happy with them. Before I got them I was ripping OEM boots regularly, but the CVJ boots have held up well. Highly recommended.

I don't think cvj will be able to keep up with this if it happens... they will run out of stock in a heart beat and will need cores sent to them asap. One thing to note with the core is it MUST be an OEM shaft, nothing else will be accepted.

For us chest slappers it would be 150 + 47.95 - 95 = 102.95 per side after core correct?

Do they have an option to choose driver or passenger side...:evil:

I'm down. Even have two complete spare oem cv axles I can send right away. I think my current cv's are at a 120k or so. Would like to replace and rebuild some for spares.

Eta: is the 150$ price for these without boots then, or do they come with boots and we just have the options to get different boots?

    Welcome fellow knuckle dragger!

The price would be somewhere in the range of $150 for a base replacement axle shipped. Atop that would be a $95 per axle core fee to be refunded upon receipt back at CVJ of your OEM donor axles. I just wanted to clear that piece up. Ill hit the other topics when I'm not typing responses on my phone.

You are correct on this front. I believe that they will be able to do batches of 10 units, with approximately a week to fulfill them. Those in each batch will need to ensure that they are prepared to have them swapped in a timely manner and get them turned around to CVJ to supply the next group of guys. This won't be a one time batch of 100 by any stretch, but instead more of an ongoing/rolling deal.

An option for driver's/passenger's side? You (or I) must be high.
    You can get you one!
The $150 price is for a fully assembled unit. The options are optional upgrades above and beyond what serves as an OEM replacement.
I would say that you look into option 0... or the standard replacement. The "options" are upgrades over and above a normal unit. Are you looking to go 4x4 and lifted, or are you planning on going stock height?

As for the locker stuff, or any other parts for that matter, please just shoot me a PM and include the information that you are looking for (part numbers, etc). I don't want to get this thread all muddied up.
