I initially went from the stock 265/70/16's to 265/75/16's and that didn't help. As soon as i put the 285/75's on, the diff howl went away.

What was the fix??? Toyota rep is coming to look at my truck. They think the 285's have something to do with it!

First they replaced a ecu module, no luck, then the dash board 4wheel drive switch, no luck, then they call Toyota corp for assistance, and they did a complete wiring check system and found a lose wire at the tranny actuator?.

Mine is the same way, it's a crap shoot every time I push the button. It always locks though, after I move forward/back slightly while turning the steering wheel back and forth. I mean, if the splines aren't lined up in the diff it just won't go in. I take that as a mechanical reality, although if I'm already stuck and want it to lock I'm sure I won't be impressed!
